Although the beneficial effects of fiber supplementation on overall health and the gut microbiome are well-known, it is not clear whether fiber supplementation can also alter the concentrations of lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), a marker of intestinal permeability. A secondary analysis of a previously conducted study was performed. In the randomized-order, placebo-controlled, double-blinded, cross-over study 20 healthy, young participants consuming a low-fiber diet at baseline were administered a daily dose of 12 g of prebiotic fiber compared with a placebo over a period of 4 weeks with a 4-week washout between arms.

Background: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a common neglected parasitic disease. Nanoparticles containing drugs have been widely utilized in various formulations for several purposes, including improving the bioavailability of drugs by increasing the solubility and dissolution rate of the nanoparticles. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of solid lipid nanoparticles containing albendazole and conjugated to albumin (B-SLN + ABZ) as a novel treatment approach for hydatid cysts in vivo.

Purpose: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease that severely impairs patient's life quality and represents significant therapeutic challenge due to its pathophysiology arising from skin barrier dysfunction. Topical corticosteroids, the mainstay treatment for mild to moderate AD, are usually formulated into conventional dosage forms that are impeded by low drug permeation, resulting in high doses with consequent adverse effects, and also lack properties that would strengthen the skin barrier. Herein, we aimed to develop biomimetic lamellar lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs), offering a novel alternative to conventional AD treatment.

Ocular drug-delivery is one of the most challenging areas owing to nature of ocular tissues. Various nanoformulations have been designed and investigated for drug-delivery to achieve high drug bioavailability. The major focus of preparations available in market is to utilize nanomaterial as drug-carrier, with less focus on developing functional-nanomaterials, which is a key knowledge gap in the field.

Background: Choline is an essential nutrient required for proper cell functioning. Due to its status as a precursor to acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter connected to cognition and neuromuscular function, maintaining or enhancing choline levels is of interest. Supplementation with alpha-glycerylphosphorycholine (A-GPC) can maintain choline levels, but its ability to offer support towards cognition remains an area of ongoing research.
