Capillary refill time paradoxically decreases in a blood loss shock model.

Intensive Care Med Exp

January 2025

Department of Emergency Medicine in Linköping, and Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Linköping University, 582 25, Linköping, Sweden.

Background: This study aimed to investigate whether changes in capillary refill (CR) time precede macrovascular signs of deterioration in a human model of blood loss shock. The study was conducted at the Department of Emergency Medicine in Linköping, Sweden, and involved 42 healthy volunteers aged 18-45. Participants were randomized into two provocations of applied lower body negative pressure (LBNP): a stepwise escalation protocol and a direct application protocol, to simulate gradual and acute blood loss.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) remains an intractable and relapsing disease featured by intestinal inflammation. The anti-UC activity of Akkermansia muciniphila (AKK), an intestinal microorganism, has been widely investigated. The current work is to explore the impacts of AKK on UC and its possible reaction mechanism.

Ferroelectric and Optoelectronic Coupling Effects in Layered Ferroelectric Semiconductor-Based FETs for Visual Simulation.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Technical Center for Multifunctional Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy (Shanghai), Engineering Research Center of Nanophotonics & Advanced Instrument (Ministry of Education), Department of Physics, School of Physics and Electronic Science, East China Normal University, Shanghai, 200241, China.

Controlling polarization states of ferroelectrics can enrich optoelectronic properties and functions, offering a new avenue for designing advanced electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here, ferroelectric semiconductor-based field-effect transistors (FeSFETs) are fabricated, where the channel is a ferroelectric semiconductor (e.g.

Auto-collimation diffraction of two-dimensional metal-dielectric grating with azimuth angle of 45°.

Nanophotonics

January 2025

College of Physics & Optoelectronic Engineering, Jinan University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510632, China.

Grating under auto-collimation configuration with polarization-independent high diffraction efficiency plays an important role in the displacement measurement system, spectral beam combining system and so on. In this paper, we proposed, for the first time, a reflective two-dimensional metal-dielectric grating of which the (-1, -1) order beam is diffracted back along the input light direction, when the incident azimuth angle is 45°. With optimized structure, the (-1, -1) order diffraction efficiencies of transverse electric polarization (TE) and transverse magnetic polarization (TM) are 95.

Background: The gold standard for crystal arthritis diagnosis relies on the identification of either monosodium urate (MSU) or calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystals in synovial fluid. With the goal of enhanced crystal detection, we adapted a standard compensated polarized light microscope (CPLM) with a polarized digital camera and multi-focal depth imaging capabilities to create digital images from synovial fluid mounted on microscope slides. Using this single-shot computational polarized light microscopy (SCPLM) method, we compared rates of crystal detection and raters' preference for image.
