Determination of KGa-1b and SHCa-1 Δ'O and δO via Laser Fluorination of Lithium Fluoride Clay Pellets.

Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom

April 2025

Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

Rationale: Stable oxygen isotope measurements in silicate clays, such as smectite and kaolinite, provide crucial information for understanding Earth's climate history and environmental changes. Despite a growing interest in the oxygen isotope analysis of silicate clays and clay-rich sediments, there lacks a consensus on the preparation and standardization of clay mineral samples. To improve the accuracy and interlaboratory comparisons of clay isotope measurements, especially those involving laser fluorination techniques, newly established kaolinite and smectite oxygen isotope standards are much needed.

The determination of the spatial variation of n(Sr)/n(Sr) isotope ratios in calcium carbonates by laser ablation multi collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-MC-ICP-MS) can support to uncover geological, ecological, or biological processes. This study presents the use of an external matrix matched bracketing standard for the correction of instrumental isotopic fractionation (mass bias) of strontium isotope ratios in natural carbonates determined by LA-MC-ICP-MS. We used a stable, homogeneous and well-characterized reference material, the FEBS-1 otolith powder, pressed into pellets as a matrix matched calibration standard.

Matrix Isolation of the Arsinoborene FB-As═BF with an As═B Double Bond Character.

Inorg Chem

March 2025

Institut für Chemie und Biochemie-Anorganische Chemie, Freie Universität Berlin, Fabeckstrasse 34/36, Berlin 14195, Germany.

We report on the generation of FB-As═BF, an arsinoborene (boranylidenearsane) with a genuine As═B double bond, where both the As and B atoms are two-coordinate. It was obtained from the reaction of AsF with laser-ablated boron atoms under cryogenic conditions in neon and argon matrices. In addition, the single-bonded arsenic-boron radicals FB-AsF and FB-AsF were characterized.

Optical C Tracing for Biological and Pharmaceutical Applications Using Two-Color Cavity Ringdown Spectroscopy.

Anal Chem

March 2025

Department of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, Genentech, Inc., MS412a, South San Francisco, California 94080, United States.

Laser-based C quantitation has been proposed as a more affordable, higher-throughput, table-top alternative to accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). Here, we demonstrate the feasibility of a mid-IR C detector based on two-color cavity ringdown spectroscopy (2C-CRDS) for low-level C isotope tracing in biological studies. The 2C-CRDS technique quantifies the sample C content by measuring the CO absorption signals from the combusted samples with mid-IR lasers.

The quantum dynamics of excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) is studied using a non-Markovian open quantum system perspective. Models of 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl) benzothiazole (HBT) and 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline (HBQ) are adapted from Zhang et al., , 2023, 3, 107-118 and simulated via the numerically exact TEDOPA matrix product-state formalism, using a newly developed framework for continuous degrees of freedom subject to dissipation.
