In vitro human liver models are indispensable for compound metabolism/toxicity screening, disease modeling, and regenerative medicine. While induced pluripotent stem cell-derived human hepatocyte-like cells (iHeps) mitigate the sourcing limitations with primary human hepatocytes (PHHs), their functional maturity is rate-limiting for application use. During development, immature hepatoblasts interact with different non-parenchymal cell (NPC) types, such as mesenchyme and endothelia, in a spatiotemporal manner to progress through functional maturation.

Premise: Gelatinous (G)-fibers are specialized fibers that generate tensile force to bend and straighten many plant organs; this phenomenon has been intensively studied in tension wood of trees. Previous work has shown that G-fibers are common within the stems of twining vines, but we lack the spatiotemporal developmental data required to determine whether, or how, G-fibers contribute to the movement and/or stabilization of twining tissues.
Methods: We employed multiple histochemical approaches to characterize the formation and cell wall architecture of G-fibers in twining and shrub phenotypes of common bean across a developmental time series.

Tracking and eradicating drug-resistant bacteria are critical for combating implant-associated infections, yet effective antibacterial therapies remain elusive. Herein, we propose an oxygen vacancy-rich (BiFe)(BaTi)O nanoreactor as a piezoelectric sonosensitizer by spatiotemporal ultrasound-driven sono- and chemodynamic tandem catalysis to amplify antibacterial efficacy. The piezoelectric charge carriers under a built-in electric field synchronize the reaction of O and HO, efficiently generating HO.
