Despite the wide range of treatment options available for cancer therapy, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgical procedures, each of these treatments has a different side-effect profile and leaves the patient with no option but to choose. Due to their insensitivity and nonspecificity, conventional treatments damage normal cells together with cancer cells. In recent years, a significant amount of attention has been focused on photodynamic therapy (PDT) as a treatment for cancer and drug-resistant microbes.

Dodecyl acetate (DDA), a volatile compound present in insect sex pheromones, was incorporated into alginate-based granules to obtain controlled-release formulations (CRFs). In this research, not only was the effect of adding bentonite to the basic alginate-hydrogel formulation studied, but also that of the encapsulation efficiency on the release rate of DDA in laboratory and field experiments. DDA encapsulation efficiency increased as the alginate/bentonite ratio increased.

Nanoemulsions are promising drug delivery systems for the administration of poorly soluble drugs like lornoxicam (LRX) by oral or parenteral routes. Such formulations work perfectly for transdermal delivery of lornoxicam-type drugs. It has also been established that formulating such a delivery system is highly dependent on the presence, type, and concentration of excipients taking part in the formulation.

This study focuses on the synthesis of functional allopurinol (ALP) imprinted biomaterials for a transdermal drug delivery using mung bean starch (MBS), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), sodium benzoate (SB) as a crosslinking agent, and poloxamer (PX) as a thermo-sensitive polymer. Prepared functional biomaterials were characterized and evaluated by SEM, FT-IR analysis, and physical properties.
