Rheology modifiers (RMs) are polymeric molecules providing rheological control of formulations, which are important in product application, shelf-life, and aesthetic perception. Bio-derived polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based RMs thicken formulations through nonionic-associative thickening where at least two hydrophobic end groups from a RM molecule interact with other hydrophobic groups of other RM molecules or ingredients in the formulation to form an associative network. We report a comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC) separation of partly bio-derived PEG-based RMs in size exclusion chromatography (SEC) × reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) mode for the separation of RM components based on both molecular weight distribution and end group hydrophobe distribution.

The real-time detection of gaseous HO and its typical isotopic molecules, e.g., HO, DO, HDO, and HTO, is highly desirable in many fundamental scientific studies and practical monitoring, such as mechanistic studies of HO-involved chemical reactions and radiation risk warning of abnormal HTO emissions.

Bioinspired Fern-like FeO Functionalized with Pd/PdO Nanoparticles for High-Performance Acetone Sensing.

Molecules

December 2024

College of Materials Science and Engineering, Liaocheng University, Liaocheng 252000, China.

The accurate monitoring and detection of acetone vapor are essential for environmental and human safety. Consequently, fern-like FeO with hierarchical vein-like structures is synthesized via a concise hydrothermal method. Compared with pure fern-like FeO, fern-like Pd/PdO-FeO shows the best acetone-sensing characteristics, in terms of lower operating temperature (180 °C), better selectivity and excellent long-term stability.

Effect of industrial alkene ozonolysis on atmospheric HSO formation.

J Environ Sci (China)

April 2025

School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Nanjing 210044, China; Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment Monitoring and Pollution Control, Nanjing 210044, China. Electronic address:

This study has employed the master chemical mechanism (MCM) to investigate the influence of the ozone oxidation pathways in the atmospheric formation of HSO from short-chain olefins in industrialized areas. In-situ HSO formation data were obtained using a high-resolution chemical ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer, and the simulated HSO concentrations calculated using updated parameters for the MCM model exhibited good agreement with observations. In the simulation analysis of different reaction pathways involved in HSO formation, hydroxyl radicals were found to dominate HSO production during the daytime, while olefin ozone oxidation contributed up to 65% of total HSO production during the night-time.

Ginseng, a highly esteemed herbal medicine, has been utilized over 5000 years, predominantly in Far Eastern countries. Ginseng is categorized into garden ginseng (GG) and ginseng under forest (FG). However, in contrast to FG, excessive intake of GG may lead to potential adverse effects due to disruption of epithelial cell integrity, and the specific population groups that may be at higher risk.
