With the increasing height and rotor diameter of wind turbines, bat activity monitoring within the risk area becomes more challenging. This study investigates the impact of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) on bat activity and explores acoustic bat detection via UAS as a new data collection method in the vicinity of wind turbines. We tested two types of UAS, a multicopter and a Lighter Than Air (LTA) UAS, to understand how they may affect acoustically recorded and analyzed bat activity level for three echolocation groups: Pipistrelloid, Myotini, and Nyctaloid.

CDCG-UNet: Chaotic Optimization Assisted Brain Tumor Segmentation Based on Dilated Channel Gate Attention U-Net Model.

Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, Chennai, 600089, India.

Brain tumours are one of the most deadly and noticeable types of cancer, affecting both children and adults. One of the major drawbacks in brain tumour identification is the late diagnosis and high cost of brain tumour-detecting devices. Most existing approaches use ML algorithms to address problems, but they have drawbacks such as low accuracy, high loss, and high computing cost.

Background: The scanning trigger threshold affects image quality. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different scanning trigger thresholds on brain computed tomography angiography (CTA) image quality.

Methods: In this prospective study, 80 patients undergoing brain CTA examinations with dual-layer CT (DLCT) were randomly divided into group A and group B, with 40 patients in each group.

Recent advances in microCT are facilitating the investigation of microstructures in spiders and insects leading to an increased number of studies investigating their neuroanatomy. Although microCT is a powerful tool, its effectiveness depends on appropriate tissue preparation and scan settings, particularly for soft, non-sclerotized tissues, such as muscles, organs, and neural tissues. As the application of microCT in spiders is only in its infancy, published protocols are often difficult to implement due to substantial size variation of the specimens.

Highly sensitive and catalytic electrochemical aptamer-based biosensor for β-lactoglobulin via coupling redox recycling background minimization with DNAzyme amplification.

Anal Chim Acta

February 2025

Background: β-lactoglobulin (β-Lg), a major allergen in dairy products, can trigger severe allergic reactions and even fatal outcomes in infants. In this work, we develop a new low background current redox recycling strategy by conjugating the electrochemical mediator to trimetallic hybrid nanoparticles (NPs)-dispersed graphene as the signal tag, which is coupled with DNAzyme amplifications to construct highly catalytic and ultrasensitive β-Lg aptasensor.

Results: Target β-Lg molecules bind aptamers in DNAzyme/aptamer duplexes to release active DNAzymes to initiate cyclic cleavage of hairpin substrates.
