Article Synopsis
  • Low-dimensional quantum systems can support unique particles called anyons that behave differently from traditional particles like bosons and fermions, particularly in one dimension.
  • This study successfully creates Abelian anyons using ultracold atoms in an optical lattice and investigates their behavior, including quantum walks and a specific interference effect known as the Hanbury Brown-Twiss effect.
  • When interactions among the anyons are introduced, they exhibit different transport dynamics compared to bosons and fermions, paving the way for future research into complex behaviors of one-dimensional anyons.

Systematic insights into cell density-dependent transcriptional responses upon medium replacements.

Biomed Pharmacother

Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby 2800, Denmark. Electronic address:

Understanding the molecular mechanisms governing transfection efficiency and particle secretion in high cell density cultures is critical to overcome the cell density effect upon transient gene expression. The effect of different conditioned media in HEK293 transcriptome at low and high cell density is explored. A systematic pair-wise comparative study was performed to shed light on the effect on previous phenotypical characteristics of different media conditions: fresh, exhausted and media depleted from extracellular vesicles (EVs) as well as associated proteins and RNAs.

SLC24A-mediated calcium exchange as an indispensable component of the diatom cell density-driven signaling pathway.

Diatom bloom is characterized by a rapid increase of population density. Perception of population density and physiological responses can significantly influence their survival strategies, subsequently impacting bloom fate. The population density itself can serve as a signal, which is perceived through chemical signals or chlorophyll fluorescence signals triggered by high cell density, and their intracellular signaling mechanisms remain to be elucidated.

The contact inhibition of proliferation (CIP) denotes the cell density-dependent inhibition of growth, and the loss of CIP represents a hallmark of cancer. However, the mechanism by which CIP regulates gene expression remains poorly understood. Chromatin is a highly complex structure consisting of DNA, histones, and trans-acting factors (TAFs).

We investigate biomass-herbivore-carnivore (top predator) interactions in terms of a tritrophic dynamical systems model. The harvesting rates of the herbivores and the top predators are described by means of a sigmoidal function of the herbivores density and the top predator density, respectively. The main focus in this study is on the dynamics as a function of the natural mortality and the maximal harvesting rate of the top predators.
