With the rapid advancement of plant phenotyping research, understanding plant genetic information and growth trends has become crucial. Measuring seedling length is a key criterion for assessing seed viability, but traditional ruler-based methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive. To address these limitations, we propose an efficient deep learning approach to enhance plant seedling phenotyping analysis.

Interactions of polyelectrolytes (PEs) with proteins play a crucial role in numerous biological processes, such as the internalization of virus particles into host cells. Although docking, machine learning methods, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are utilized to estimate binding poses and binding free energies of small-molecule drugs to proteins, quantitative prediction of the binding thermodynamics of PE-based drugs presents a significant obstacle in computer-aided drug design. This is due to the sluggish dynamics of PEs caused by their size and strong charge-charge correlations.

Objective: Although adjuvant trastuzumab-based treatment (TBT) improves survival for patients with HER2-positive early invasive breast cancer (EIBC), risk of toxicity grows as patient age increases. We examined use of TBT and associated severe acute toxicity event (SATE) rates to understand the real-world impact.

Methods And Analysis: Women (50+ years), newly diagnosed with HER2-positive EIBC in England, 2014-2019, were identified from Cancer Registry data, linked to the Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy dataset for TBT information.

A Long Fluorescence Lifetime Probe for Labeling of Gram-Negative Bacteria.

Chem Biomed Imaging

January 2025

Precision Healthcare University Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London, Whitechapel, London E1 4NS, United Kingdom.

Bacterial resistance, primarily stemming from misdiagnosis, misuse, and overuse of antibacterial medications in humans and animals, is a pressing issue. To address this, we focused on developing a fluorescent probe for the detection of bacteria, with a unique feature-an exceptionally long fluorescence lifetime, to overcome autofluorescence limitations in biological samples. The polymyxin-based probe (ADOTA-PMX) selectively targets Gram-negative bacteria and used the red-emitting fluorophore azadioxatriangulenium (with a reported fluorescence lifetime of 19.
