Published: October 1998

Three one-minute techniques are presented using anhydrous resin modified glass isonomer, an antibacterial and multifunctional base and liner. The isonomer is placed in deep areas of caries, as insurance, and to desensitize the tooth and fill gaps. The anhydrous glass accepts water from the dentin to fill potential contraction gaps from polymerization shrinkage of the composite fill.

Herein, we developed multifunctional hydrogels formed between soybean protein (SPI)-gallic acid conjugate and oxidized dextran (ODex) via a Schiff base reaction. The effects of ODex on the morphology, structure, and functional properties of the hydrogels were elucidated. The results showed that the crosslinking modes in the hydrogels include hydrogen bonding, Schiff bases, Michael addition, and π-π stacking.

The complete manipulation of Jones matrix phase-channels using metasurfaces brings forth unparalleled possibilities across diverse wavefront modulation applications. Traditionally, achieving independent control over all four phase-channels usually involves the introduction of chirality with multilayer or three-dimensional metasurfaces. Here, we present a general chirality-free method that relies on polarization base transformation with a planar minimalist metasurface, effectively decoupling the four Jones matrix phase-channels, thereby unleashing the fundamental boundaries imposed by conventional linear or circular polarization bases.

A multifunctional magnetic chiral metal-organic framework (MOF) was developed for asymmetric applications by utilizing strategies of chiralization and multifunctionalization. Cu(l-proline)-Triazine/FeO@SiO-NH was employed as a chiral secondary agent to synthesize a chiral hybrid nanocomposite within a MOF. The use of a chiral secondary agent efficiently induces chirality in an achiral MOF structure that cannot be directly chiralized.

Design and development of a multifunctional wound dressing with self-healing, adhesive, and antibacterial properties to attain optimal wound closure efficiency are highly desirable in clinical applications. Nevertheless, conventional hydrogels face significant barriers in their mechanical strength, adhesive performance, and antibacterial properties. Herein, a tough hydrogel based on aldehyde-grafted galactomannan was synthesized through radical copolymerization and Schiff base reaction, incorporating hyaluronic acid, acrylamide, and the zwitterionic monomer to create a multi-crosslinked structure.

Background: Urgent solutions are needed in cities to mitigate twin crises of global climate change and biodiversity loss. Urban nature-based solutions (actions that protect, sustainably manage, and restore ecosystems while simultaneously providing human wellbeing and biodiversity benefits) are being advocated for as multi-functional tools capable of tackling these societal challenges. Urban forest management is a proposed nature-based solution with potential to address both climate change mitigation and biodiversity loss along with multiple other benefits.
