Sixty-five infants with moderate (37 feet) or severe (48 feet) inflexible metatarsus adductus were treated with a below-knee plaster cast. The deformity was corrected in 6-8 weeks in all cases. At the 2- to 6-year follow-up (mean, 4 years), the correction was maintained in all children who had had a moderate deformity; of the 44 feet with severe deformity that were available for examination, six now had a moderate deformity, and one a severe deformity. All forefeet were flexible, and further treatment was unnecessary. Our results are similar to those for above-knee plaster casts. We conclude that a below-knee plaster cast is effective in the treatment of metatarsus adductus.

The peroneus muscles, consisting of the peroneus longus (PL) and peroneus brevis (PB) tendons, are vulnerable to injury at anatomically specific sites or within tendon sheaths. Peroneal tendon dislocation (PTD) is often misdiagnosed as a lateral ankle sprain as it occurs at a lower frequency than a lateral ankle sprain. Anatomical variations in the retromalleolar groove, soft tissue overstuffing, and presence of accessory peroneal muscles contribute to the etiology of PTD.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine the impact of a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) on patient outcomes 3 years after Achilles tendon rupture (ATR) repair and if there were continued improvements between 1 and 3 years after surgery. A secondary aim was to determine risk factors associated with impaired patient outcomes in the long term.
Methods: This cohort study consisted of 181 ATR-repaired patients, from two large randomized clinical trials, who attended a 3-year follow-up evaluation.
Background Ankle fractures are very common injuries seen in an emergency setting. Initial management involves the application of below-knee plaster casts. At our local trauma meetings, we have observed that below-knee casts are often applied incorrectly which can result in suboptimal outcomes for patients and increase the burden on plaster room services if re-application is required.

Background: Ankle equinus deformity is a common complication of prolonged external fixator use in tibia fractures with an incidence of 15%-16%. It affects gait and may lead to foot, leg, and back problems. Treatment of equinus deformity increases the cost of treatment of open tibia fractures and increases the time spent off work.

Structural insights in the use of protocols and the extent of practice variation in EDs are lacking. The objective is to determine the extent of practice variation in EDs in The Netherlands, based on specified common practices. We performed a comparative study on Dutch EDs that employed emergency physicians to determine practice variation.
