Objective: The present study aimed to examine the discriminatory ability of alcohol expectancies and drinking refusal self-efficacy and to identify the differential role of these constructs in social and problem drinkers.
Method: Drinkers (N = 276) were self-selected from general (n = 185) and clinical (n = 91) populations to complete a 40-minute questionnaire that asked about alcohol expectancies, drinking refusal self-efficacy, consumption, degree of dependence and demographics.
Results: The results showed that in social drinkers both the expectancy and self-efficacy constructs were reliably able to discriminate between types of drinker. Expectancy was related to consumption in social drinkers, but did not appear to account for a significant proportion of the variance in problem drinkers.
Conclusions: The findings are discussed in terms of a two-process model of drinking behavior that suggests that expectancies operate differently in social and problem drinkers.

Background And Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) has a 22%-74% 28-day mortality rate and 30%-40% 30-day readmission rate. We investigated the acceptability and feasibility of a multimodal community intervention for ACLF.
Methods: A single-arm nonrandomized pilot study of consecutive participants with ACLF was conducted in a tertiary health service.

Mechanical interatomic bond formation under ultrahigh pressure induced by laser-driven shock waves has been demonstrated for C-C, C-O, and O-O bonds. In this study, molecules generated in primary amine solutions irradiated with high-intensity lasers were identified. When methylamine or ethylamine was dissolved in methanol or ethanol, molecules likely formed through C-C or O-N bonds between the amine and alcohol were detected.

Background And Method: This study set out to identify the factors and combinations of factors associated with the individual's premature death, using data from the Finnish Longitudinal Study on Ageing Municipal Employees (FLAME) which involved 6,257 participants over a 29-year follow-up period. Exact dates of death were obtained from the Finnish population register. Premature death was defined as a death occurring earlier than the age- and sex-specific actuarial life expectancy indicated by life tables for 1981, as the baseline, with the threshold period of nine months.

The demand for extended shelf life and food safety in the food industry continues to rise. At the same time, the environmental burden of traditional plastic packaging materials is becoming increasingly serious. Therefore, in this study, an intelligent bilayer film with a pH-sensitive inner indicator film based on Artemisia Sphaerocephala Krasch.
