We retrospectively evaluated preoperative radioisotope (RI) scintiscans in 275 patients (283 glands) with parotid tumors who undergoing surgery between 1987 and 2000. Technetium-99m-pertechnetate (Tc) scintigraphy was conducted on 201 glands. Oncocytoma and Warthin's tumor showed a high positive rate.

Unlabelled: We investigated and compared findings on combined 99mTc pertechnetate-201Tl with those of [99mTc]pertechnetate-67Ga scintiscans to elucidate the advantages of 201Tl in detecting various salivary glands disorders.
Methods: We studied 23 patients: 6 had sialadenitis, 12 had benign tumors and 5 had malignant tumors. All but four patients had undergone [99mTc]pertechnetate (before and after lemon stimulation), 201Tl (early and delayed) and 67Ga imaging.

A rare primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (diffuse large cell) of the spleen developed in a 72-yr-old man who had successful radiotherapy to the right inguinal region for Hodgkin's disease 23 yr ago. Radiologic findings, particularly the 67Ga scintigraphy finding, were very useful in leading to the correct diagnosis of malignant splenic lymphoma, in this case, preoperatively.

Melanoma is characterized by a tendency to metastasize widely throughout the body and its relative affinity for gallium-67. Because of the ability of this nuclide to image tumor sites in numerous organ systems, it has been used to detect metastases in patients with malignant melanoma. The effectiveness of this technique, however, has been controversial.

Noncaseating granulomas were recognized with significantly greater frequency in stage 2 (80 percent; 8/10 cases) than in stage 1 (43 percent; 6/14 cases). Alveolitis showed little relation to the roentgenographic stage.
