Background: To report and compare personal experience with international literature on uterine sarcomas.
Methods: 17 cases of uterine sarcomas diagnosed during seven years in our Institute, have been clinically histopathologically, prognostically and therapeutically analyzed.
Results: 10 cases of LMS, 6 of MMT, and 1 of ESS have been found. Women affected were mostly 42 to 84 years old. Most of the youngest patients were affected by LMS, while the oldest by MMT. Almost all of them were in menopause and pluriparae. The symptomatology consisted mainly of vaginal bleeding (58.9%). The diagnosis was preoperative for MMT and ESS; in 8 cases it was adopted for stage I, surgery and RT for stage II, surgery, RT and chemotherapy for a woman of stage III, and for the last two surgery and chemotherapy. The patients of stage III and IV survived respectively 8 and 10 months; three patients in stage I still have a 5 years survival and the other are still in follow-up.
Conclusion: This work is a clinical contribution since the rarity of these neoplasms does not allow the standardization of a diagnostical and therapeutical iter and consequently the improvement of prognosis.

The discovery of the bioluminescence pathway in the fungus Neonothopanus nambi enabled engineering of eukaryotes with self-sustained luminescence. However, the brightness of luminescence in heterologous hosts was limited by performance of the native fungal enzymes. Here we report optimized versions of the pathway that enhance bioluminescence by one to two orders of magnitude in plant, fungal and mammalian hosts, and enable longitudinal video-rate imaging.

Ionically cross-linked alginate hydrogels are used in a wide range of applications, such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, and food packaging. A shortcoming of these gels is that they lose their strength and degrade at low pH values. To develop gels able to preserve their integrity in a wide range of pH values, Ca-alginate-montmorillonite nanocomposite gels are prepared, and their chemical structure, morphology, and mechanical response are analyzed.

Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) symptom score is the most widely used questionnaire due to its easy interpretation with respect to quality of life (QOL) in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). It helps in deciding further treatment plan in patients with refractory CRS despite maximal medical therapy (MMT). Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is suggested in patients not responding to medical treatment.
