Objective: The aims of this study were to investigate microleakage after composite resin filling to class V cavities prepared by Er:YAG laser and to compare the results with those obtained by a conventional method using an air turbine in vitro.
Summary Background Data: There has been no report of the microleakage study on class V cavities prepared by Er:YAG laser.
Methods: Forty-eight human extracted single root teeth were used in this study. Teeth were divided into three groups of sixteen each and class V cavities of the same size were prepared by Er:YAG laser for two groups and by air turbine for one group (control). For one group prepared by Er:YAG laser and the control group, the teeth were treated with 30% phosphoric acid. After the cavities were filled with the composite resin, the teeth except the areas of cavities and margins were covered by nail varnish and dye penetration was performed under the 0.6% Rhodamine B at 36 degrees C for 48 hrs. The teeth were sectioned at a thickness of 2 mm transversally and the slices were evaluated by stereoscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Results: Microleakage at the cavity margins was observed in all three groups using the dye penetration method, but there was no significant difference among the three groups. SEM results showed similar results with the dye penetration method.
Conclusion: These results suggest that microleakage at the cavities prepared by Er:YAG laser is at the same level as for prepared by air turbine using dye penetration and SEM methods.

ER:YAG laser and experimental resin-based dental adhesive loaded with functionalized carbonated apatite filler were used in this study to evaluate the dentin interaction in terms of penetration and occlusion of the dentinal tubules aiding in the control of dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Spheroidal Carbonated apatite nanoparticles (N-CAP), with an average size of 20±5 nm diameter, were synthesized, characterized, and incorporated in a universal adhesive "All Bond Universal, Bisco, USA", in (2% weight) concentration. Er:YAG laser "Lightwalker, FOTONA, EU" was adjusted to an energy output of 40mJ/ pulse and pulse repetition of 10 Hz for 10 seconds.

Background: Dentin conditioning can affect the adhesion of stem cells in endodontic regenerative treatments. This study aimed to assess the effects of the most commonly used endodontic irrigants, namely, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), MTAD, and QMix in comparison with Er:YAG laser (as a novel modality for root canal disinfection) on the adhesion of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs) to dentin.
Material And Methods: Forty dentin specimens were prepared and subjected to different treatments in 5 groups (n=8) of control, irrigation with EDTA for 1 minute, irrigation with MTAD for 5 minutes, irrigation with QMix for 5 minutes, and Er:YAG laser irradiation.

To investigate the efficacy of a new laser irrigation activation system [shock wave-enhanced emission photo-acoustic streaming (SWEEPS)] in terms of postoperative pain after primary root canal treatment compared with other techniques, namely photon-induced photo-acoustic streaming (PIPS), sonic system with EDDY, passive ultrasonic system (PUI), and manual dynamic activation (MDA). Two hundred patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis in mandibular premolar teeth were enrolled and randomly allocated to five different irrigation activation groups (n = 40) after chemo-mechanical root canal preparation. For irrigation activation, the SWEEPS and PIPS tips were attached to the Er-YAG laser system in the respective groups, while the Irrisafe tip was used in the PUI group and the EDDY tip in the sonic group.

It is impossible to remove tooth-colored restorations by mechanical means without unnecessary damage to the adjacent sound tooth structure. This study is aimed at investigating erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er: YAG) laser (Hoya ConBio, VersaWave, CA, USA) in removing composite resin restorations and assessing the change in morphology of bonding surfaces using a scanning electron microscope (EDX, CAMSCANNER, 3200LV, UK). The investigators collected thirty extracted sound human premolar teeth for this investigation, and the conventional design class V cavity was prepared on the buccal surface of each specimen.
