We present a patient with a post-pneumonectomy empyema refractory to surgical debridement and systemic antibiotics. The patient initially presented with a bronchopleural fistula and pneumothorax secondary to tuberculosis (TB) destroyed lung, which required a pneumonectomy with Eloesser flap. Ongoing pleural infection delayed the closure of the Eloesser flap, and thoracoscopic inspection of his chest cavity revealed a green, mucous biofilm-like structure lining the postpneumonectomy pleural cavity.

Post-pneumonectomy empyema (PPE) is an uncommon but serious complication that carries significant therapeutic challenges. We present a late-onset PPE due to in an immunocompetent individual. Nine years after a right pneumonectomy for non-small cell lung cancer, surveillance scans revealed new right pleural thickening and FDG avidity concerning for recurrence.

Tissue homeostasis is controlled by cellular circuits governing cell growth, organization, and differentation. In this study we identify previously undescribed cell-to-cell communication that mediates information flow from mechanosensitive pleural mesothelial cells to alveolar-resident stem-like tuft cells in the lung. We find mesothelial cells to express a combination of mechanotransduction genes and lineage-restricted ligands which makes them uniquely capable of responding to tissue tension and producing paracrine cues acting on parenchymal populations.

Introduction: Postpneumonectomy syndrome is a pathological condition consisting in a persistent violation of the function of external respiration caused by the inflection of the trachea and/or the main bronchus and manifested by respiratory insufficiency.
Presentation Of Case: The article describes a method of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for intraoperative prevention of the development of postpneumonectomy syndrome by installing a mesh implant in a patient with central cancer of the right lung.
Discussion: The range of alternatives that have been put forth for the treatment and prevention of the emergence of postpneumonectomy syndrome, on the one hand, demonstrates the relevance of the issue and, on the other, demonstrates the inadequate outcomes of the employed techniques.

In the later stages of angiogenesis, the vascular sprout transitions into a functional vessel by fusing with a target vessel. Although this process appears to routinely occur in embryonic tissue, the biologic rules for sprout fusion and lumenization in adult regenerating tissue are unknown. To investigate this process, we grafted portions of the regenerating post-pneumonectomy lung onto the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM).
