The authors assessed high-school athletic coaches' perceptions about oral-facial injuries and mouthguard use in sports that do not mandate mouthguard use. About 72 percent of the coaches said that their athletes sustained oral-facial injuries, 28 percent that some athletes used mouthguards regularly, 48 percent that athletes had sustained injuries and did not use mouthguards regularly, and 31 percent said they would not encourage mouthguard use. Advocacy for mouthguard use should focus on coaches, coaches' associations and rule-making organizations.

This study investigated the effects of unilateral temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJDs), specifically disc displacement without reduction and osteoarthritis on one side of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), on facial asymmetry in women, while the contralateral TMJ exhibits normal findings. Participants were retrospectively enrolled and divided into an affected group (n = 42 with unilateral TMJD) and a control group (n = 49 with bilateral healthy TMJs). The affected group was dagnosed with osteoarthritis on cone-bema computed tomograph and anterior disk displacement without reduction on magnetic resonance imaging.

A stroke is a medical emergency characterized by a sudden onset of focal neurological deficits due to an interruption in the blood flow to the brain tissues, with signs and symptoms persisting for more than 24 hours. Motor, sensory, recognition, language, and perceptual deficiencies are typical signs of the disease, depending on the areas affected, the size of the injury, and the origin of the injury. Patients who have had a stroke frequently have problems like weakness, stiffness, and altered movement patterns in addition to poor balance and mobility issues.

Methods: Data were obtained from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System from 7 sites (Kentucky, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Puerto Rico, Utah, West Virginia) for 2016 through 2020. The authors used multivariable logistic regression to examine the relationship between physical IPV and respondent self-reports of whether they needed to see a dentist for several oral health problems during pregnancy: (1) needing to have a tooth restored; (2) painful, red, or swollen gingivae; (3) toothache; (4) needing to have a tooth extracted; (5) having an injury to the mouth, teeth, or gingivae; or (6) another problem with teeth or gingivae.

Purpose/objectives: The Commission on Dental (CODA) requires that pediatric dentistry training programs provide residents with clinical experiences in oral-facial injury and emergency care, as well as interprofessional patient care through hospital dentistry. These standards are often met through pediatric dental residents being on-call for children's hospitals. The aim of this study was to describe the on-call experience of pediatric dental residents at two urban children's hospitals.
