A 46-year-old female underwent an excision of a parathyroid adenoma diagnosed as recurrent primary hyperparathyroidism 24 years after the initial excision of a parathyroid adenoma. We report a case of non-synchronous double adenomas of the parathyroid glands documented histopathologically.

Resonant noise amplification in a predator-prey model with quasi-discrete generations.

Article Synopsis
  • Predator-prey models can show resonance-like behavior, where random population fluctuations become amplified when their timing aligns with the system's natural oscillation frequency.
  • This study introduces a more realistic approach where organisms replicate quasi-synchronously, creating a narrower distribution of replication times compared to traditional models with random (Poissonian) replication.
  • The results indicate that when replication frequency matches the model's natural oscillatory frequency, the system experiences stronger population oscillations, leading to quicker instability and potential extinction of one species compared to the random replication model.

Objective: Double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer refer to the simultaneous or successive appearance of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer in the same patient. Due to the low incidence, there are few relevant reports. Therefore, this study is the first population-based analysis of the clinicopathological features as well as the prognostic status of double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer.

Background: There is no criterion to distinguish synchronous and non-synchronous multiple primary cutaneous melanomas (MPMs). This study aimed to distinguish synchronous and non-synchronous MPMs and compare the survivals of them using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.

Methods: Synchronous and non-synchronous MPMs were distinguished by fitting the double log transformed distribution of the time interval between the first and second primary cutaneous melanomas (TIFtS) through a piecewise linear regression.

At present, there are many pacing strategies for young patients with complete atrioventricular block. The most frequent policy is to attempt placing a dual-chamber system when possible; however, there is a group of patients that is functioning with a non-synchronous ventricular pacing, raising the question of the ideal timing to upgrade their systems. We investigated the exercise performance of a group of children and young adults with complete atrioventricular block and dual-chamber pacemakers in both single- and dual-chamber pacing modalities.

Cell cycle synchronization and BrdU incorporation as a tool to study the possible selective elimination of ErbB1 gene in the micronuclei in A549 cells.

Lung cancer often exhibits molecular changes, such as the overexpression of the ErbB1 gene that encodes epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). ErbB1 amplification and mutation are associated with tumor aggressiveness and low response to therapy. The aim of the present study was to design a schedule to synchronize the cell cycle of A549 cell line (a non-small cell lung cancer) and to analyze the possible association between the micronuclei (MNs) and the extrusion of ErbB1 gene extra-copies.
