The results of a 20-year microbiological monitoring of full-term newborns with infectious inflammatory diseases hospitalized from maternity homes of Moscow are presented. The incidence of candidiasis within that period was shown to increase 7 times at the account of the events of cutaneous and mucocutaneous candidiasis, gastrointestinal candidiasis and candidiasis of the central nervous system. One of the sources of the endogenic contamination of the newborns and infants was their intestinal microflora. In 4.6 per cent of the patients the meconium contamination by Candida was stated during the first days after the birth.

Zoonoses are infectious diseases transmitted from animals to humans. Bats have been suggested to harbour more zoonotic viruses than any other mammalian order. Infections in bats are largely asymptomatic, indicating limited tissue-damaging inflammation and immunopathology.

Several inflammatory myopathies have an infectious or immune-mediated basis in the horse. Myosin heavy chain myopathy is caused by a codominant missense variant in MYH1 and has 3 clinical presentations: immune-mediated myositis, calciphylaxis, and nonexertional rhabdomyolysis in Quarter Horse-related breeds. An infarctive form of purpura hemorrhagica affects numerous breeds, presenting with focal firm, painful muscle swelling, and subsequent infarction of multiple tissues.

Purpose: Posterior fossa ring-enhancing lesions (PFREL) in the adult immunocompetent hosts pose a diagnostic challenge. We aimed to evaluate the spectrum of PFREL etiologies and propose a diagnostic algorithm.
Methods: This study involved a retrospective analysis of PFREL cases from our institution (January 2023 to April 2024) and a systematic literature review conducted using Embase and PubMed databases following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines.

Low back pain is common in women, especially during pregnancy and puerperium. Septic sacroiliitis, a rare cause of back pain in the postpartum period can mimic other common causes of low back pain like muscle strain, urinary tract infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis and intervertebral disc prolapse. The proximity of the sacroiliac joint to the sacral nerve plexus results in septic sacroiliitis frequently presenting with symptoms mimicking intervertebral disc prolapse.

Common genetic variants in a conserved cis-regulatory element (CRE) at histone deacetylase (HDAC)9 are a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, including stroke and coronary artery disease. Given the consistency of this association and its proinflammatory properties, we examined the mechanisms whereby HDAC9 regulates vascular inflammation. HDAC9 bound and mediated deacetylation of NLRP3 in the NACHT and LRR domains leading to inflammasome activation and lytic cell death.
