Reaction centers from the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides were oriented in phospholipid interfacial layers adsorbed to a Teflon film separating two electrolyte-filled compartments of a Teflon cell. Light-induced voltage changes were measured as a function of time across electrodes immersed in the cell compartments. The experimental system is characterized both experimentally and theoretically to relate the measured signals to the light-induced displacement currents in the reaction centers. Mathematical relations between the measured signals and the distances and geometries of the charge-transfer reactions are derived. At pH 8.0 the reaction centers were found to be oriented with approximately 60% of the population oriented with the donor facing the aqueous phase. The density of the reaction centers in the layer was approximately 10(11) cm-2, which is close to that found in the native system. Reconstitution of the secondary quinone, QB, in 90% of the RCs was achieved with an approximately 100-fold excess of ubiquinone in the vesicle preparation.

Single nucleotide variations (SNVs) and polymorphisms (SNPs) are characteristic biomarkers in various biological contexts, including pathogen drug resistances and human diseases. Tools that lower the implementation barrier of molecular SNV detection methods would provide greater leverage of the expanding SNP/SNV database. The oligonucleotide ligation assay (OLA) is a highly specific means for detection of known SNVs and is especially powerful when coupled with polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

In this work, UiO-66-l-cys with enhanced adsorption capacity for Hg(Ⅱ) in water was synthesized through a facile two-step partial ligand replacement strategy. The presence of the functional groups significantly enhanced the capacity of the material for Hg(Ⅱ). According to the Langmuir model, the maximum theoretical adsorption capacity was calculated to be 1321.

S-Adenosylmethionine (SAM) is the primary methyl donor for numerous cellular methylation reactions. Its central role in methylation and involvement with many pathways link its availability to the regulation of cellular processes, the dysregulation of which can contribute to disease states, such as cancer or neurodegeneration. Emerging evidence indicates that intracellular SAM levels are maintained within an optimal range by a variety of homeostatic mechanisms.

The transition to net zero emissions requires the capture of carbon dioxide from industrial point sources, and direct air capture (DAC) from the atmosphere for geological storage. Dissolved CO has reactivity to rock core, and while the majority of previous studies have concentrated on reservoir rock or cap-rock reactivity, the underlying seal formation may also react with CO. Drill core from the underlying seal of a target CO storage site was reacted at in situ conditions with pure CO, and compared with an impure CO stream with SO, NO and O that could be expected from hard to abate industries.

Objective: This study examined the response strategies of Surgery residents as bystanders to harassment in a simulated clinical environment, their alignment with the bystander intervention model, and the motivations behind their actions.
Design: Participants watched an educational video on harassment and ways to address it prior to undergoing a simulated clinical scenario where they witnessed a senior resident harassing a medical student. The study used audio-video recordings of the simulations to capture and analyze residents' verbal and nonverbal responses to harassment.
