Objectives: A 1993-1995 three year epidemiological survey of home parenteral nutrition was performed through in France in approved centers for adults.

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected each year on a standardized questionnaire focussing on indications and short term outcome.

Results: All centers (n = 14) participated in the study and 524 new adult patients were recruited. The overall incidence was unchanged at 3.75 patients/10(6) adults. Indications for AIDS rose (8 to 18%) whereas other indications were stable. Prevalence increased by 19%: 4.40 adults/10(6) patients at 01.01.1996. At six months, the probability to stay on treatment was 19.5% for AIDS and cancer indications but 52% for others, whereas death rates were 59% and 9% respectively.

Conclusions: For both cancer and AIDS indications, short-term treatment was due to a poor prognosis. For other diagnosis, complicated with a short bowel in 51% of cases, prognosis was excellent but associated with treatment dependency. The latter point focuses on the need for additional treatments in irreversible intestinal failure.

Background: Asthma, a chronic inflammatory lung disease, is one of the leading causes of disability, demands on health resources, and poor quality of life. It is necessary to identify asthma-related risk factors to reduce the presence and development of symptoms.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the association of multiple possible factors with asthma symptoms in two subpopulations, children, adolescents, and adults, in six cities in Colombia.

Background: Plasma biomarkers such as neurofilament light (NfL), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and phosphorylated tau-181 (p-tau-181) have been thoroughly investigated in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. However, further investigations into how biological variables can influence biomarker concentrations in both normative and cognitively resilient populations will be important for more robust interpretations of biomarker levels. This study investigates how ageing modifies plasma biomarkers in a normative, epidemiologically representative Canadian population and in cognitively healthy seniors over 80 years old.

Background: Older adults, especially from diverse populations, are often presumed to be unwilling or unable to participate in mobile health (mHealth) studies. Since 2017, the Einstein Aging Study (EAS) participants have been instructed on and actively supported in completing comprehensive and intensive longitudinal assessments, harnessing the capabilities of smartphones and wearable devices. Notably, since early 2023, the EAS has expanded its scope by incorporating the gathering of data from multiple wearable sensors.

Background: Acute stroke may increase dementia risk. Previous work has not accounted for time-varying covariates that could increase risk of stroke and dementia over time, and there has been very limited evidence on the effect in Asian Americans. We aimed to estimate the effect of incident stroke on dementia risk over 10 years of follow-up among Asian American and White older adults in Northern California considering time-varying covariates.
