To examine the possible internal heterogeneity within the Basque population, nine samples typed for several HLA loci were compiled and HLA-A, B, C and DR loci were analysed. First, the shared features of HLA in Basques were analysed by principal component analysis and genetic distances. Two major Basque dialect groups ('French' and 'Spanish') were considered. FST statistics were computed and corrected for sampling intensity. The dialectal and political division did not seem to differentiate these two groups genetically. Analysis of Molecular Variance also failed to show consistently significant genetic variance components between French and Spanish Basques. Thus, in this particular example, linguistic diversity does not seem to correlate with a genetic stratification.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-fusion proteins resulting from chromosomal rearrangements are promising targets for cancer immunotherapy. While ALK-specific CD8+ T cells and epitopes presented on MHC class I have been identified in patients with ALK-positive malignancies, little is known about ALK-specific CD4+ T cells. We screened peripheral blood of ten ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK+ALCL) patients in remission and six healthy donors for CD4+ T-cell responses to the whole ALK-fusion protein, nucleophosmin (NPM1)::ALK.

Purpose Of Review: Like elephants (and T cells), accumulating evidence suggest natural killer (NK) cells never forget. The description of adaptive or memory NK cells, which can be induced by HIV/SIV infections and vaccines and associated with protective effects in persons with HIV (PWH), has dramatically increased the interest in leveraging NK cells to prevent HIV infection or suppress HIV reservoirs. However, harnessing their full antiviral potential has been hindered by an incomplete understanding of mechanisms underlying adaptive NK cell development and infected cell recognition.

White-Sutton syndrome (WHSUS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by heterozygous variants in the POGZ gene. With slightly over 100 reported cases, the diagnosis of WHSUS remains challenging due to its variable and non-specific clinical features. We report a novel case of WHSUS carrying a heterozygous de novo variant in the POGZ gene and with characteristic clinical features including global developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, generalised myoclonic epilepsy, hypotonia and distinct dysmorphic features.

CD204 is a distinct indicator for tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in glioma. Evidence indicates that CD204-positive TAMs are involved in the aggressive behavior of various types of cancers. This study was conducted to develop a new and effective peptide-based vaccine for GBM, specifically targeting CD204.

After more than a century since its initial development, Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) remains the only licensed vaccine against tuberculosis (TB). Subunit boosters are considered a viable strategy to enhance BCG efficacy, which often wanes in adolescence. While many studies on booster subunit vaccines have concentrated on recombinant proteins, here we developed a novel modular peptide-based subunit vaccine platform that is flexible, cold-chain independent and customizable to diverse circumstances and populations.
