In the past year, significant progress has been achieved in the research on aquaporins (AQPs), a family of structurally related molecular water channels. Three novel AQPs were identified, giving a total of ten mammalian AQPs. An important step forward in identifying the aqueous pore in AQP molecules was the determination of the three-dimensional structure of AQP1. The expression pattern of individual AQPs in different tissues was determined in more detail and AQP-knockout mice have been generated. The discovery of a severe urinary concentrating defect in AQP1-knockout mice was remarkable. Only AQP2, the vasopressin-sensitive water channel in the kidney, which is mutated in autosomal recessive and dominant cases of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, has been shown to be involved in human disease. The finding of changed AQP2 expression in several acquired water balance disorders may pave the way toward developing treatments for these clinical problems.

Background And Aim: NK cells and NK-cell-derived cytokines were shown to regulate neutrophil activation in acute lung injury (ALI). However, the extent to which ALI regulates lung tissue-resident NK (trNK) activity and their molecular phenotypic alterations are not well defined. We aimed to assess the impact of 1,25-hydroxy-vitamin-D3 [1,125(OH)D] on ALI clinical outcome in a mouse model and effects on lung trNK cell activations.

The excessive buildup of neurotoxic α-synuclein plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease, highlighting the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies to promote α-synuclein clearance, particularly given the current lack of disease-modifying treatments. The glymphatic system, a recently identified perivascular fluid transport network, is crucial for clearing neurotoxic proteins. This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on the role of the glymphatic system in α-synuclein clearance and its implications for the pathology of Parkinson's disease while emphasizing potential therapeutic strategies and areas for future research.

Background: Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form a highly adaptable and versatile group of fungi found in natural and man-managed ecosystems. Effector secreted by AM fungi influence symbiotic relationship by modifying host cells, suppressing host defense and promoting infection to derive nutrients from the host. Here, we conducted a reference-based transcriptome sequencing of Funneliformis mosseae BR221 to enhance understanding on the molecular machinery involved in the establishment of interaction between host and AM fungi.

Low molecular weight galactomannan (LMGM), a soluble dietary fibre derived from guar gum, is recognized for its prebiotic functions, including promoting the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria and the production of short-chain fatty acids, but the mechanism of alleviating diarrhea is not fully understood. This study established an acute diarrhea mouse model using senna leaf decoction and evaluated the therapeutic effects of LMGM by monitoring diarrhea scores, loose stool prevalence, intestinal tissue pathology and gene expression, and gut microbiota composition and metabolisms. The results indicated that LMGM significantly reduced diarrhea scores and loose stool prevalence within two hours post-treatment.
