Nafcillin (N) pharmacokinetics was studied in 27 subjectswith and without renal failure (RF) (determined by endogenous creatinine clearance, Ccr). Elimination rate constants (K) were calculated from serial serum levels of N measured from 2 to 12 hr after a single 500-mg intramuscular injection. Only 4 of 9 hemodialysis patients had measurable levels of N at 24 hr. The K values for the groups with normal renal function, moderate RF, severe RF, and on hemodialysis were 0.477 hr(-1), 0.432 hr (1), 0.369 hr(-1), and 0.306 hr (-1), respectively...

Background: People with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a higher risk for progression to tuberculosis disease following infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We produced a nationwide incidence estimate and description of tuberculosis among people with kidney failure.

Methods: We completed a cross-sectional descriptive analysis of people with a reported case of tuberculosis in the United States between 2010 and 2021.

We present a rare case of a patient with co-occurring exercise-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and rhabdomyolysis. A 67-year-old man was referred to our department with AKI. Five days before referral, the patient had sudden-onset loin pain while banging and kicking on a door in a holding cell at a police station.

Effect of intraoperative magnesium sulphate on acute kidney injury following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: a retrospective propensity score-matched analysis.

Although intraoperative magnesium sulphate administration has various advantages, its influence on the occurrence of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) remains unclear, particularly in patients undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). The steep Trendelenburg position and a high intra-abdominal pressure can render patients susceptible to AKI after surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intraoperative magnesium sulphate administration on postoperative AKI in patients who underwent RARP.

Prognostic utility of assessing ventricular-arterial coupling in arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.

Minerva Cardiol Angiol

Department of Anatomy and Embryology, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Maastricht University, Maastricht, the Netherlands.

The assessment of myocardial function and its coupling with the arterial system, called ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC), is of paramount importance in many clinical fields, from arterial hypertension, which is the main cause of cardiovascular diseases and death, to heart failure. VAC has been the subject of studies for several decades both from an energetic cost and the impact it can exert on cardiovascular performance. Although more attention has been paid to the relationship between the left ventricle and the left arterial circuit in compromised hemodynamic stages, VAC has aroused interest in many other aspects of study, from its application in pathologies of the right sections of the heart to its clinical impact in prevention and cardiovascular risk factors.

[Nephrology : what's new in 2024 (II)].

Rev Med Suisse

Service de néphrologie, Département de médecine, Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève, Genève 14.

Certain molecules, such as GLP-1 agonists and endothelin antagonists, possess nephroprotective properties. When treating IgA nephropathy, endothelin antagonists and sibeprenlimab have shown effectiveness in slowing the progression of chronic kidney isease. Additionally, the infusion of amino acids can reduce the incidence of mild acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery.
