We present updated information on a previously reported kindred with an autosomal dominant disorder variably expressed as indifference to pain, dementia, and ataxia. Additional clinical and radiological information is presented, as are autopsy results form the index case. In addition to evidence of Alzheimer's disease, the autopsy revealed bilateral thalamic gliosis, which may be a neuroanatomic substrate for the indifference to pain seen in this patient. To our knowledge, this is the first reported association of thalamic gliosis and indifference to pain.

Background: Effects of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on neuropsychiatric symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) remain debated. Sensor technology might help to objectively assess behavioural changes after STN-DBS.
Case Presentation: 5 PD patients were assessed 1 before and 5 months after STN-DBS with the Movement Disorders Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale part III in the medication ON (plus postoperatively stimulation ON) condition, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Behaviors in Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale present version, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Starkstein Apathy Scale.

Ethylene glycol toxicosis is a common occurrence in dogs and cats but has been reported in other species as well. Up to date, only one case of ethylene glycol toxicosis has been described in horses, and specific guidelines for treating ethylene glycol intoxication in this species are not available. Here we describe the case of 39 sport horses that ingested water contaminated with ethylene glycol.

Pain is a multifactorial debilitating condition associated with some psychiatric comorbidities such as generalized anxiety and depression. Concerning pharmacological treatment, which is often inefficient or associated with intense side effects, the physical and social context may be fundamental for patient's health improvement. In this sense, we sought to assess the impact of an enriched environment (EE) on neuropathic pain (NP) and depression comorbid.

Background: Despite the progress made in better understanding the potential mechanisms of spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) and its treatment effects, a knowledge gap continues to exist when identifying the specific factors that contribute to the perceived treatment effect associated with SMT. The purpose of the study was to explore the perceptions of chiropractic clinicians, interns, and patients regarding what factors during a doctor-patient encounter contribute to the perceived treatment effect associated with SMT.
Methods: This study used convenience sampling to enroll participants from a chiropractic teaching clinic in the United States.

Background: Apathy is a prevalent and debilitating neuropsychiatric symptom among persons living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, particularly those residing in long-term care facilities (LTCF). Despite its profound effects on the quality of life for both residents and their caregivers, apathy remains underrecognized and poorly understood in the context of dementia care.
Objective: To investigate the prevalence and biopsychosocial characteristics of apathy among newly admitted residents with dementia in Canadian LTCF using an Apathy Index derived from the interRAI Minimum Data Set (MDS) 2.
