The ratio of thoracic and abdominal contribution to ventilatory responses to hypercapnia in humans was found to depend on the initial ratio of thoracic and abdominal breathing reserves as determined by the body position in space. In muscular work, participation of the respiratory muscles in locomotor loads becomes a factor affecting the ratio of thoracic and abdominal components of ventilatory response.

Insects are the only arthropod group to achieve powered flight, which facilitated their explosive radiation on land. It remains a significant challenge to understand the evolutionary transition from non-flying (apterygote) to flying (pterygote) insects due to the large gap in the fossil record. Under such situation, ontogenic information has historically been used to compensate fossil evidence.

Background: Heterotaxia is characterized by an abnormal positioning of the thoracic and/or abdominal organs, resulting in various physiological and hemodynamic implications. Congenital heart disease involves structural irregularities in the heart or major vessels within the chest, leading to functional challenges.
Case Presentation: We present a 26-year-old Arab female patient with a complex medical history involving heterotaxy, dextrocardia, congenital heart disease, and ureteropelvic junction obstruction diagnosed in her first year of life, followed by the identification of endometriosis in her early twenties.

Objectives: Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is common in severely injured patients and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.
Method: The association of two parameters of blood gas analysis (hemoglobin [Hb], base excess [BE]) with standard coagulation tests (SCTs) and rotational thrombelastometry (ROTEM) using the database of the TraumaRegister DGU between 2015 and 2022 was studied. In a stepwise approach, the occurrence of a TIC, the correlations between Hb/BE levels and SCT, as well as ROTEM were calculated respectively.

Background: CT thorax, abdomen and pelvis (CT-TAP) remains the standard in the identification of metastatic disease in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer. In patients with proven micro and macro axillary nodal metastasis, the optimal radiological technique remains controversial. A consensus on which patients with axillary nodal disease should receive radiological staging for distant disease and how this should be performed is not currently available.
