Soft pneumatic actuation is widely used in wearable devices, soft robots, artificial muscles, and surgery machines. However, generating high-pressure gases in a soft, controllable, and portable way remains a substantial challenge. Here, a class of programmable chemical reactions that can be used to controllably generate gases with a maximum pressure output of nearly 6 MPa is reported.

Insect-scale mobile robots can execute diverse arrays of tasks in confined spaces. Although most self-contained crawling robots integrate multiple actuators to ensure high flexibility, the intricate actuators restrict their miniaturization. Conversely, robots with a single actuator lack the requisite agility and precision for planar movements.

"The development and deployment of a practical and portable technology for on-site chiral identification of enantiomers hold immense significance in the fields of medical and biological sciences. Among the essential amino acids, Tryptophan (Trp) plays a crucial role in human metabolism and serves as a diagnostic marker for various metabolic disorders. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach that combines an enantio-selective ZIF-8-His MOF-MIPs packed-bed centrifugal microfluidic system with an enantioselective colorimetric sensor probe.

Point-of-care tests (POCTs) are increasingly being used in field settings, particularly outdoors. The performance of current POCTs─most commonly the lateral flow immunoassay─can be adversely affected by ambient temperature and humidity. We developed a self-contained immunoassay platform─the D4 POCT─that can be conducted at the POC by integrating all reagents in a capillary-driven passive microfluidic cassette that minimizes user intervention.

Biological evidence originating from victims of sexual assault is often comprised of unbalanced cellular mixtures with significantly higher contributions from the victim's genetic material. Enrichment of the forensically-critical sperm fraction (SF) with single-source male DNA relies on differential extraction (DE), a manually-intensive process that is prone to contamination. Due to DNA losses from sequential washing steps, some existing DE methods often fail to generate sufficient sperm cell DNA recovery for perpetrator(s) identification.
