Iron chelators can reduce radical damage inflicted on cells by two mechanisms, either direct scavenging of the radicals or by scavenging loosely bound iron which under aerobic conditions can generate radicals. Frequently it is not possible to distinguish between these two modes of action. 3-Hydroxypyridin-4-ones, in contrast to many iron(III) chelators are poor radical scavengers and therefore have potential in analysing mechanisms involved in biochemical and physiological processes which are centered on radical-induced cell injury.

Purpose: To investigate the association of diabetes mellitus and metformin use with metabolic acidosis risk after radical cystectomy (RC) and urinary diversion for bladder cancer.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study used TriNetX Research Network data. Patients undergoing RC with continent diversion or ileal conduit for bladder cancer were identified using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) and ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) codes.

Hairy roots mediated by Agrobacterium rhizogenes can be obtained from the composite plants (plants with hairy roots and untransformed aerial parts) by ex vitro method. Composite plants can produce higher amounts of secondary metabolites by merging hydroponic systems. This provides a stable condition for composite plants, in which various metabolites are produced in different parts.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the predictive value of baseline CT body composition and its early changes on recurrence-free survival (RFS) following radical gastrectomy, while also assessing potential sex-related differences.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of gastric cancer (GC) patients with confirmed pathology from October 2019 to May 2023. All patients underwent preoperative and postoperative CT scans to assess visceral fat area (VFA), subcutaneous fat area (SFA), skeletal muscle area (SMA), and skeletal muscle density (SMD), along with calculating their respective rates of change.

As the rubber industry seeks sustainable alternatives to mitigate its environmental impact, this study introduces a biobased approach using polyfarnesene rubber reinforced with plasma-modified cellulose nanocrystals (MCNC) and nanofibers (MCNF). The nanocellulose was modified by plasma-induced polymerization using trans-β-farnesene and was characterized by FTIR, XPS, XRD, TGA, and SEM to confirm the grafting of farnesene-derived polymer chains onto the cellulose surface, demonstrating the successful modification and integration of the nanoparticles. Polyfarnesene bio-based rubbers were synthesized through two different polymerization techniques: solution-based coordination polymerization (PFA1) and emulsion-based free radical polymerization (PFA2).

Iron-activated peroxyacetic acid (PAA) represents an innovative advanced oxidation process (AOP). However, the efficiency of PAA activation by Fe(III) is often underestimated due to the widespread assumption that Fe(III) exhibits much lower ability than Fe(II) to activate PAA. Herein, the oxidative degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) by Fe(III)-activated PAA process was investigated, and some new insights into the performance and mechanism of the Fe(III)/PAA system were presented.
