Introduction: The objective of this study was to ascertain the predictive value of osteopontin (OPN), a cytokine with pro-inflammatory properties implicated in inflammatory and allergic conditions, in nasal secretions for the identification of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyp (CRSwNP) endotypes and the assessment of disease severity.
Methods: A cohort comprising 81 individuals diagnosed with CRSwNP was enrolled, which included 37 subjects with the non-eosinophilic CRSwNP and 44 subjects with the eosinophilic CRSwNP (eCRSwNP), alongside 32 healthy controls (HCs). Nasal secretions and tissue samples were collected from all participants.

The low plating/stripping efficiency of zinc anodes, dendrite growth, and high freezing points of aqueous solutions hinder the practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries. This paper proposes a zwitterionic permeable network solid-state electrolyte based on the "anchor-capture" effect to address these problems by incorporating proline (Pro, a biological antifreeze agent) into the electrolyte. Extensive validation tests, Quantum Chemistry (QC) calculations, Molecular Dynamics (MD) Simulations, and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations consistently indicate that the amino groups in proline adsorb onto the Zn metal surface, stabilizing the zinc anode-electrolyte interface, suppressing side reactions from water decomposition, and homogenizing zinc-ion flux.

Solid-state potassium metal batteries (SPMBs) are promising candidates for the next generation of energy storage systems for their low cost, safety, and high energy density. However, full SPMBs are not yet reported due to the K dendrites, interfacial incompatibility, and limited availability of suitable solid-state electrolytes. Here, stable SPMBs using a new iodinated solid polymer electrolyte (ISPE) are presented.

The parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulates the calcium and phosphate level in blood after secretion from parathyroid chief cells. The pre- and pro-sequences of precursor preproPTH get cleaved during PTH maturation. In secretory granules, PTH forms functional amyloids.

Plasmonic coupling nanoparticle assembly is a popular signal-generation method in bioanalytical sensors. Here, we customized an all-peptide-based ligand that carries an anchoring group, polyproline spacer, biomolecular recognition, and zwitterionic domains for functionalizing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as a colorimetric enzyme sensor. Our results underscore the importance of the polyproline module, which enables the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M) to recognize the peptidic ligand on nanosurfaces for subsequent plasmonic coupling Coulombic interactions.
