Anti-nucleosome antibodies, which recognise conformational epitopes consisting of histone and DNA in chromatin, have been described in autoimmune diseases. In this study, an attempt was made to isolate anti-nucleosome antibodies from the anti-DNA-depleted plasma IgG of two lupus patients either with or without nephritis by nucleohistone affinity chromatography. The purified nucleohistone-binding antibodies bound to nucleohistone in a specific manner and contained enriched anti-histone antibodies. However, adsorption of the purified antibodies with histone revealed that the nephritis patient-derived antibodies contained nucleohistone-specific antibodies. Although such purified antibodies may not recognise native structures of nucleosomes, this chromatography may provide a method to isolate and determine the fine specificity of anti-nucleosome antibodies in various autoimmune diseases.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are multisystemic autoimmune disorders that can present with renal manifestations. Overlapping cases of these diseases are extremely rare and present both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report the case of a 70-year-old male with a history of autoimmune pancreatitis, who was admitted with fatigue, weight loss, and worsening kidney function.

Background: Viral infections are known to induce the occurrence and pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Previous studies have indicated a possible relationship between SLE and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection and have attributed HCMV to be associated with various autoantibodies; however, these studies were constrained by variations in sample size and potential selection bias. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between HCMV and autoantibodies in patients with SLE by integrating clinical data and genetic susceptibility.
