Lamellar particles and microspheres were produced by precipitation from solutions of resorbable, biocompatible, semi-crystalline poly(L-lactide)[PLA] and amorphous poly(DL lactide co-glycolide)[PLG] copolymer, respectively, to investigate their adjuvanticity towards adsorbed influenza virus. Both types of substrate were capable of adsorbing large quantities of virus (> 15% w/w) and retaining virus (> 60% of the initial load) over an 8 week time scale in-vitro. Potent immune responses were obtained in mice after the intra-muscular injection of adsorbed vaccine systems. The response to virus adsorbed on PLA lamellar particles was almost five times that obtained using PLG microspheres and fourteen times that using aqueous vaccine. The lamellar forms of PLA may function as an immunomodulator enhancing phagocytic activity due to their irregular shape and may be useful in improving the immune response to a variety of protein and viral antigens.

New efficient and sustainable methods for the removal of malachite green (MG) from environmental media are needed. In this study, corn straw was co-pyrolyzed with montmorillonite under a variety of conditions (400, 500, 600, and 700 °C and 10-40 wt% montmorillonite), without any use of toxic chemicals, to produce a series of biochar-clay composites. Characteristics of the composites that make them promising contaminant sorbents include a uniform lamellar-particle micromorphology, enhanced mesoporous structure and surface area (53.

Dynamic density functional theory (DDFT) is a fruitful approach for modeling polymer dynamics, benefiting from its multiscale and hybrid nature. However, the Onsager coefficient, the only free parameter in DDFT, is primarily derived empirically, limiting the accuracy and broad application of DDFT. Herein, we propose a machine learning-based, bottom-up workflow to directly extract the Onsager coefficient from molecular simulations, circumventing partly heuristic assumptions in traditional approaches.

Block copolymers (BCPs) can form nanoparticles having different morphologies that can be used as photonic nanocrystals and are a platform for drug delivery, sensors, and catalysis. In particular, BCP nanoparticles having disk-like shape have been recently discovered. Such nanodisks can be used as the next-generation antitumor drug delivery carriers; however, the applicability of the existing nanodisks is limited due to their poor or unknown ability to respond to external stimuli.

In the fast-paced quest for early cancer detection, noninvasive screening techniques have emerged as game-changers, offering simple and accessible avenues for precession diagnostics. In line with this, our study highlights the potential of silver nanoparticle-decorated titanium carbide MXene nanosheets (TiC_AgNPs) as an electroactive interface for the noninvasive diagnosis of oral carcinoma based on the prevalence of the salivary biomarker, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). An in situ reduction was utilized to synthesize the TiC_AgNPs nanohybrid, wherein TiC acts as the reducing agent, and the resulting nanohybrid was subjected to various characterization techniques to examine the optical, structural, and morphological attributes.
