Human chromosome-specific probes for the entire karyotype were hybridized to metaphase spreads of the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, to directly compare the evolutionary conservation of chromosomal segments between these two distantly related species. All human chromosomal paints, except the Y probe, hybridized to Tursiops counterparts, and every dolphin chromosome was painted except for the smallest submetacentric pair. In our analysis, 36 segments of conserved synteny common to the human and dolphin genomes were identified. The distribution of conserved chromosomal segments and the specific rearrangement patterns found between the two genomes are presented and discussed.

In some regions of the world, long traditions of herding practices have coevolved with the natural ecosystems, sustaining livelihoods and biodiversity. However, in emerging economies, the populations that have long relied on livestock as their main income are now driving a dramatic increase in livestock numbers on the landscape. This study investigates the impacts of livestock (cattle and horses) and human activities on wild ungulates, Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus), wapiti (Cervus canadensis), and wild boar (Sus scrofa), in Bogd Khan Mountain, Mongolia.

Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite that can infect all warm-blooded animals, leading to toxoplasmosis. Dolphins are invaluable sentinel species informing potential risks of zoonotic pathogen infection in humans through raw or undercooked seafood consumption. Between 2019 and 2023, 14 dolphins from coastal New South Wales, Australia were examined as part of ongoing marine animal health monitoring programs.

Right heart adaptation to pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a critical determinant of clinical outcomes, morbidity, and mortality in patients with or at risk for cardiopulmonary disease. The World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension recently redefined PH as a mean pulmonary arterial pressure >20 mm Hg, based on a wealth of epidemiologic evidence underscoring the significant impact of even mildly elevated mean pulmonary artery pressures on major adverse clinical events. The lowered diagnostic threshold for PH has renewed interest in echocardiography and its critical role in early detection and screening, refined hemodynamic evaluation, and longitudinal monitoring.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) enhances understanding of the upper airway (UA). This study compared three software products' abilities in visualizing and quantifying specific upper airway changes using CBCT. We conducted a retrospective analysis of pre- and post-operative CBCT images from 29 patients using Dolphin (Do), Romexis 5 (Ro5), and Romexis 6 (Ro6) software, focusing on alterations in oropharyngeal volume and minimum cross-sectional area as key indicators of orthognathic surgery outcomes.

Hearing range differs among various species. Ultrasound, which is audible to microbats and dolphins, is inaudible to humans through air conduction. However, it can create an auditory sensation when the stimulation is transmitted through the temporal bone.
