Published: June 1998

Purpose: Frontalis brow suspension, using stored donor fascia lata, allows early correction of severe congenital ptosis. We report longterm results of 18 patients, (29 ptotic eyelids).

Methods: Patient records were retrospectively reviewed. Lid position at the first and subsequent post-operative visits was recorded, as was the time when ptosis recurred.

Results: The mean follow-up period was 42.9 months (range 7 to 84 months). All patients achieved a Good initial result. Partial ptosis recurrence was noted in 7 patients (10 eyelids), within 18 months of surgery. One of these patients required reoperation. Lid position did not change after the first 18 months. No late failures were encountered.

Conclusion: Longterm lid position is remarkably stable after early surgical correction of severe congenital ptosis using stored fascia lata.

Background: Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) risk stratification in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP) may be complicated by other potential causes of arrhythmia.

Objectives: We aimed to characterize SCA survivors with isolated (iMVP) and non-isolated MVP (non-iMVP) and to assess their long-term follow-up.

Methods: This ambispective study included 75 patients with MVP who experienced SCA and were treated in our center between 2009-2024.

Pectus excavatum (PE) can be associated with either congenital or acquired heart disease. This study highlights the importance of PE surgical repair in cases of severe chest depression on the heart in underlying cardiac diseases exacerbating cardiopulmonary impairment. From January 2023 to March 2024, four male patients underwent PE repair, having heart disease including pericarditis, mitral valve prolapse, ventricular fibrillation arrest and type 1 second-degree atrioventricular block.

Ptosis is defined as an abnormally low-lying upper eyelid margin on the primary gaze, generally resulting from a congenital or acquired abnormality of the nerves or muscles that control the eyelid. Ptosis can occur alone or concurrently as an ocular or systemic syndrome, and the prevalence of ptosis varies among different countries and populations. Isolated ptosis typically causes aesthetic problems in patients and can lead to functional ophthalmic problems in severe cases.
