A series of 5-[(Z)-(4-(2-(E)-arylidene)hydrazonosulfonylbenzylidene)]-2, 4-imidazolidinediones 6a-h and 5-[(Z)-(4-(2-beta-D-glycopyranosyl) hydrazinosulfonylbenzylidene)]-2,4-imidazolidinediones 10a-j were synthesized via two different routes. The compounds did not display any antiviral and antitumoral activity.

DNA exonucleases and endonucleases are key executors of the genome during many physiological processes. They generate double-stranded DNA by cleaving damaged endogenous or exogenous DNA, triggering the activation of the innate immune pathways such as cGAS-STING-IFN, and enabling the body to produce anti-viral or anti-tumor immune responses. This is of great significance for maintaining the stability of the genome and improving the therapeutic efficacy of tumors.

Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China; Ningbo Institute of Dalian University of Technology, Ningbo 315016, China. Electronic address:

Betulinic acid (BA) is a kind of naturally occurring lupane pentacyclic triterpenoid, possessing various biological activities including antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antitumor activity. Covalent inhibitors, characterized by electrophilic warheads that form covalent bonds with specific amino acid residues of target proteins, have garnered enormous attention in anticancer agent discovery over the past decade owing to their exceptional selectivity and efficacy. In this study, BA was structurally modified with electrophilic groups, and 23 derivatives of BA were synthesized.

Leptin, NK cells, and the weight of immunity: Insights into obesity.

January 2025

Immunology Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Federal University of Paraiba, João Pessoa, Paraíba 58051-900, Brazil. Electronic address:

Obesity is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects more than 1 billion people worldwide and is associated with various metabolic and physiological dysfunctions, directly impacting the dynamics of the immune response, partly due to elevated leptin levels. Leptin is an important peptide hormone that regulates neuroendocrine function and energy homeostasis, with its blood levels reflecting energy reserves, fat mass, or energy deprivation. This hormone also plays a fundamental role in regulating immune function, including the activity of NK cells, which are essential components in antiviral and antitumor activity.

Department of Pharmacy, Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong, Sichuan, 637000, P. R. China; School of Pharmacy, North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong, Sichuan, 637000, P. R. China. Electronic address:

The genus Chrysanthemum has been widely used as both folk medicine and food in East Asia for thousands of years, serving as a significant source of nutritional and pharmacological value. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, it clears heat and toxic materials and regulates liver function. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that polysaccharides from the genus Chrysanthemum, especially Chrysanthemum morifolium, Chrysanthemum indicum, and Coreopsis tinctoria, are vital representative macromolecules with diverse biological activities, including antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antitumor, and antiviral properties as well as the ability to regulate the gut microbiota.
