Frequency analysis of long bones has been investigated as a tool to assess bone quality or integrity. The objective of the present paper was to develop a three-dimensional finite element model of a fresh human femur with geometrical and mechanical properties derived from quantitative computer tomography images. This model was then exercised and the results were compared to those obtained from a vibration analysis technique. The percent relative error between the numerically and experimentally derived results was found about 4%. Finally, the influence of mechanical properties on the resonant spectre was studied. The results exhibit the limitations of the vibrational technique to detect slight material changes.

Two-point contact is one of the fundamental problems of wheel-rail contact in switch area. The contact state and the distribution of forces are complex and essential points in wheel-rail relationship. Given the problem that the current dynamic wheel-rail contact state is challenging to detect, a theory to detect the two-point contact state of the wheel-rail in switch area using a discrete gauge column was presented and proved in the finite element model.

This study presents an advanced dynamic finite element (FE) model of multiple components of the breast to examine the biomechanical impact of different types of physical activities and activity intensity on the breast tissues. Using 4D scanning and motion capture technologies, dynamic data are collected during different activities. The accuracy of the FE model is verified based on relative mean absolute error (RMAE), and optimal material parameters are identified by using a validated stepwise grid search method.

The effect of bone relaxation on the simulated pull-off force of a cementless femoral knee implant.

Aseptic loosening is the primary cause of revision in cementless total knee arthroplasty (TKA), emphasizing the importance of strong initial stability for long-term implant success. Pre-clinical evaluations are crucial for understanding implant fixation mechanics and improving implant designs. Finite element (FE) analysis models often use linear elastic bone material models, which do not accurately reflect bone's mechanical behavior.

The accurate estimation of the temperature distribution of the GaN based power devices and optimization of the device structure is of great significance to possibly solve the self-heating problem, which hinders the further enhancement of the device performances. We present here the operando temperature measurement with high spatial resolution using Raman spectroscopy of AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) with different device structures and explore the optimization of the device thermal design accordingly. The lateral and depth temperature distributions of the single-finger HEMT were characterized.
