Chlorination is a widely used strategy at the industrial level. Chlorinated products represent indispensable building blocks in synthetic chemistry. Here, we report the synthesis of benzyl chlorides and α-chloro alkyl arenes, mediated by visible light, starting from variously substituted toluenes and -dichloroacetamide as a chlorinating reagent.

Dichlorobenzene is beneficial to industries, however, the release of this compound into the environment causes significant damage to ecosystems and human health, as it exhibits resistance to biodegradation. Here, we show that chlorophenol and resorcinol are synthesized from 1,3-dichlorobenzene in a water ice environment (1) directly on a poly-crystalline gold surface and (2) after low-energy (<12 eV) electron irradiation of admixture films. For the latter, at energies below 5.

Iron sulfide (FeS) exhibits superior reactivity toward a wide range of contaminants, making it a promising candidate for environmental remediation in various media, including surface water, wastewater, soil, and groundwater. Driven by green and sustainable development principles, efficient, low-cost, and environmentally friendly biosynthesis has attracted considerable attention and has great environmental remediation potential. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent advances in biogenic FeS (bio-FeS), focusing on its synthesis mechanisms, performance characterization, and environmental applications.

Electrochemical reduction technology is a promising method for addressing the persistent contamination of groundwater by chlorinated hydrocarbons. Current research shows that electrochemical reductive dechlorination primarily relies on direct electron transfer (DET) and active hydrogen (H) mediated indirect electron transfer processes, thereby achieving efficient dechlorination and detoxification. This paper explores the influence of the molecular charge structure of chlorinated hydrocarbons, including chlorolefin, chloroalkanes, chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, and chloro-carboxylic acid, on reductive dechlorination from the perspective of molecular electrostatic potential and local electron affinity.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent organic pollutants emitted during e-waste activities. Upon release into the environment, PCBs can pose harmful effects to the humans and environment. The present review focused on the effects of PCBs on cell proliferation, apoptosis, functional and developmental toxicity and potential possible molecular mechanisms upon cells and stem cells.
