Purpose Muscle atrophy progresses with age. The motor function may be estimated by measuring the muscle mass; however, if muscle quality deteriorates due to an increase in connective tissue within the muscle, a decline in motor function may be missed by measuring muscle mass alone. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationship between muscle mass, muscle quality, and motor function.

Purpose This study evaluated the efficacy of oral melatonin therapy for visual acuity and retinal and choroidal structures in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). Methods Fourteen patients with CSCR were included; eight received oral melatonin (3 mg nightly), and six formed the control group. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT), central choroidal thickness (CCT), and choroidal vascularity index (CVI) were assessed at baseline and after one month.

Our newly developed AshPhos ligand represents a significant advancement in Buchwald-Hartwig aminations, overcoming many limitations of existing ligands. Created from affordable and accessible materials, AshPhos enhances catalytic performance, especially for extremely difficult substrates, by emphasizing the principles of ligand chelation and cooperativity. Its successful synthesis and application in catalytic aminations underscore its potential for use in the sustainable synthesis of compounds important to medicinal chemistry, materials, and energy.

Background: For reimbursement purposes, current coding fails to reflect the true complexity and resource utilization of hospital encounters for surgeries performed to treat periprosthetic total hip arthroplasty (THA) infection. Therefore, when compared to aseptic revisions, we sought to determine (1) Is length of stay (LOS) longer for septic surgeries? (2) Are septic procedures more expensive? and (3) How do different surgical procedures for infection compare with aseptic revisions on hospital LOS and charges?
Methods: Retrospective chart review of 596 unilateral THA reoperations (473 patients) performed at a single institution (January 2015 to November 2020). Demographics, professional (ie, physicians), and technical (ie, room, implants) hospital charges per case were compared between 6 different surgery types: (1) aseptic revision (control; n = 364); (2) debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (n = 11); (3) explantation (n = 145); (4) spacer exchange (n = 7); (5) 2-stage reimplantation (n = 59); and (6) 1-stage reimplantation (n = 10).

Background: Chronic neuropathic pain is a major health problem that adversely affects people's physical and mental well-being, as well as their quality of life. Percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) may offer a minimally invasive option earlier in the treatment continuum for adults with chronic neuropathic pain that is refractory to conventional medical management. We conducted a health technology assessment of PNS for adults with chronic neuropathic pain, which included an evaluation of effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness, the budget impact of publicly funding PNS, and patient preferences and values.
