The objective of this study was to identify factors affecting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) usage among patients of a single physician. All active patients (n = 330) given a HRT prescription over the past 10 years (1985-1995) by the physician were sent a questionnaire on health knowledge, lifestyle patterns, general medical and reproductive histories, responses to HRT usage and decision-making about HRT use. A total of 214 useful questionnaires were returned giving a response rate of 65%. For this cohort, the length of HRT use for those still taking HRT was 60 months; and for those no longer taking HRT, it was 32 months; and 85% of those ever given an HRT prescription were still using HRT at the time of survey. The educational backgrounds, exercise patterns, health knowledge, medical and reproductive histories of this group were representative of those found among suburban postmenopausal women in central Pennsylvania. Among this cohort, the most important reason for them taking HRT was the physicians' recommendation.

Background: Early menopause has been associated with several cardiovascular diseases. Its impact on the progression of aortic stenosis (AS) remains unknown. We conducted an analysis to examine the impact of early menopause without hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) on the progression of AS in postmenopausal women with AS.

Background: The net benefit of oral anticoagulation in patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis (HD) is uncertain. In recent years, left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has emerged as an alternative to oral anticoagulation; however, there is scant evidence of LAAC in patients on HD.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and safety of LAAC in patients on HD.

This work investigates the optimization of medium-chain carboxylate (MCC) production through xylan mixed-culture monofermentation. The pH screening in batch assays showed that the hydrolysis stage and selectivity towards MCC precursors were optimised at pH 6. Subsequently, a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and a Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) were operated at different Hydraulic Retention Times (HRT), revealing that the SBR at HRT 2 days yielded the highest caproic acid since lactic acid availability and chain elongation process were balanced.

Extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) are well-acknowledged to accelerate microalgal biofilm formation, yet specific role of stratified EPS is unknown. Bacterial biofilm stratified EPS could enrich phosphorus, whether microalgal biofilm stratified EPS could also realize phosphorus or nitrogen enrichment remains unclarified. This study investigated microalgae dominant biofilm growth characteristics and nutrients removal via inoculating microalgae and stratified bacterial EPS at various microalgae:bacteria ratios.

Unlike high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), which mainly affects postmenopausal women, mucinous ovarian carcinoma (MOC) affects younger patients, with a median age at diagnosis of 53 years, and is rare among premenopausal women. After they receive anticancer treatment, these women encounter specific issues involving fertility preservation (FP) and/or pregnancy, which potentially require assisted reproductive technology (ART) as well as the prescription of hormonal contraception (HC) or hormone replacement therapy (HRT). We reviewed the available literature in PubMed/Medline concerning the risks of the development of ovarian cancer (OC), including MOC, associated with ART, HC and HRT, and literature on the impact of ovarian stimulation in the context of FP and/or ART, HC and HRT in women previously treated for OC, including MOC.
