Objective: To determine the value of the argyrophil nucleolar organizer region (AgNOR) technique on scrape cytology of thyroid lesions.
Study Design: AgNOR counts were evaluated in smears of 70 thyroid lesions that were sent for frozen section and included 15 cases of follicular adenoma, 10 cases of follicular carcinoma, 13 cases of papillary carcinoma, 23 cases of nodular goiter and 9 cases of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Forty-one slides out of 70 were freshly prepared, and 29 slides had been previously stained with hematoxylin and eosin and then destained with alcohol. The number of AgNOR dots was recorded for 50 cells, and the mean number was calculated.
Results: The mean AgNOR counts were statistically significantly higher in malignant lesions in comparison to benign lesions.
Conclusion: AgNOR staining could be of use in cytologic material from thyroid lesions.

Mast cell tumors (MCTs) are common skin neoplasms in dogs. Prognostic indicators include histologic grade, clinical stage, high Ki-67 index, elevated argyrophilic nucleolus organizer regions (AgNOR) index, mutations, and recurrence after surgery. Blood serum redox status has been shown to correlate with prognostic factors in canine lymphoma and mammary tumors.

Introduction: Comparative cytogenetics is a vital approach for diagnosing chromosome abnormalities and identifying species-specific patterns. In this study, chromosomal analysis of three Anatolian endemic Cobitis species was performed: Cobitis bilseli, C. fahireae, and C.

Objectives: To assess argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) in 60 patients with primary breast carcinoma and evaluated their association with clinical prognostic parameters of breast cancer.
Methods: Argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions were stained in paraffin sections of the tissues using Ploton's silver method. For each sample, the number of AgNORs within the nuclei of 100 tumor cells was counted.

The subgenus Stenocranius contains two cryptic species: Lasiopodomys gregalis (subdivided into three allopatrically distributed and genetically well-isolated lineages A, B, and C) and Lasiopodomys raddei. To identify karyotype characteristics of this poorly studied cryptic species complex, we used comparative cytogenetic analysis of 138 individuals from 41 localities in South Siberia and Mongolia. A detailed description of the L.
