i-OHAP, a major metabolite of aprindine (AP), was isolated by TLC from rat feces and identified as N-13-(N,N-diethylamino)propyl]-N-phenyl-2-aminoindan-5-ol, based on 1H-NMR, the H-H correlation spectroscopy (COSY) spectrum, MS and LC-MS. Its structure was also confirmed by comparison with the synthesized compound. The hydroxy group of i-OHAP was located at the 5-position of the indan ring. AP is a prochiral compound, and the metabolism of AP to i-OHAP was stereoselective. The ratio of (+)/(-)-i-OHAP in rat feces and in human urine was about 5 and 15, respectively.

This perspective discusses that the essential micronutrient zinc has functions in over 3000 human proteins (the zinc proteome), and the implications of three aspects to ascertain an adequate zinc status for human health. First, the advent of highly sensitive fluorescent (bio)chemicals revealed cellular pools of zinc ions involved in signalling and secretion from cells for paracrine, autocrine, and possibly endocrine functions. Zinc signalling adds a yet unaccounted number of targeted proteins to the already impressive number of zinc proteins.

Reducing enteric methane emissions from livestock is a key environmental challenge, as methane is a major pollutant. The complexity of animal biology and diverse diet compositions make it difficult to develop strategy to control methane production. This study examined the use of plant phenolic extracts of Madhuca longifolia (ML-7) as a feed additive combined with various ruminant diets and dosages to find an effective supplement to reduce methane emissions.

Background: There is evidence indicating that disruptions in lipid metabolism are implicated in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), with systemic repercussions that can be identified in peripheral blood. Recent studies conducted by our group have identified abnormalities in lipid metabolism among patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia (probable AD), through the investigation of a specific panel of lipid metabolites in plasma. Although much remains to be elucidated about the complex interaction between disturbances in lipid metabolites and the pathogenesis of AD, this promising research area offers exciting opportunities for the development of new strategies for disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
