Aminoglycosides disrupt the outer membrane of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to facilitate access to their intracellular target. High-resolution X-ray micrography of live specimens is a relatively new technique. We used laser (nanosecond) plasma to image live cells of P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853. After exposure to 25 mg/L gentamicin for 15 min. we observed perturbation of the cell surface, membrane blebbings (370 nm and 273 nm diameter) away from the cell, formation of distinct channels (241 nm long) resulting from indentation and induction of cell elongation from 3-3.6 microm (control) to 4.6-5.26 microm (gentamicin-treated cells). These data illustrate the potential of high-resolution X-ray micrography for studying effects of drugs on live microbiological specimens.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze black tattoo inks by means of energy dispersive spectroscopy and backscattered scanning electron microscopy.
Methods: The sample consisted of five types of commercial tattoo pigments of the black colour (Easy Glow, Electric Ink, Iron Works, Master Ink, and Viper). An Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) detector (Silicon Drift Detector - SDD - type) attached to a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) device (Tescan Vega3 LMU, Libusina, Czech Republic) was used.

The present work investigates the effectiveness of two heat treatment cycles-solution treatment + aging (STA) and direct aging (DA)-on optimizing the microstructure and enhancing the mechanical properties of 18Ni-300 maraging steel (300 MS) produced by additive-subtractive hybrid manufacturing (ASHM). The STA treatment led to a fully martensitic microstructure with minor remnants of the cellular substructures associated with the solidification conditions in ASHM. DA resulted in some reverted austenite and partial dissolution of the cellular morphologies into shorter fragments.

It is important to create new generations of materials that can destroy multidrug-resistant bacterial strains, which are a serious public health concern. This study focused on the biosynthesis of an essential oil entrapped in titanium dioxide (TiO) calcium alginate-based microspheres. In this research, calcium alginate-based microspheres with entrapped TiO nanoparticles and cinnamon essential oil (CI-TiO-MSs) were synthesized, using an aqueous extract of seeds for TiO nanoparticle preparation, and the ionotropic gelation method for microsphere preparation.

Energy Dispersive X-Ray Microanalysis has been used as the non-invasive technique on Indian helminthes to explore the role of nematode parasites as bioindicators in the marine ecosystem of Central West coast of India for the first time. The accumulation of sulphur and iron were analysed from a raphidascaridoid roundworm, (Malhotra and Anas) parasitizing marine catfish, from the Central West coast of India at Goa. Quantitatively, the cuticle on oral armature comprised as much as ten times more sulphur than iron content in the roundworm under study.
