When rats bearing the 13,762 mammary carcinoma were treated with intravenously administered creatine analogs, cyclocreatine, beta-guanidinopropionic acid or creatine phosphate on days 4 through 8 and 14 through 18 post tumor implantation, the tumor growth delay produced varied with whether the animals were drinking water or sugar water over the course of the study. The tumor growth delays increased when the animals drank sugar water from 9.3, 1.6 and 7.6 days for cyclocreatine, beta-guanidinopropionic acid and creatine phosphate, respectively, to 15.0, 6.3 and 12.6 days. Blood glucose was decreased over the course of the creatine analog treatment regimen and the skeletal muscle transport protein GLUT-4 increased 1.5 to 2-fold with the creatine analog treatments. Plasma insulin was profoundly decreased to 20-25% of normal by the creatine analog treatment while plasma glucagon levels were increased. Plasma somatostatin increased 3- to 4-fold during the administration of the creatine analogs. These results implicate alterations in pancreatic hormone balance in the antitumor activity of these creatine analogs.

Effect of estrogen on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in male and female rats and related mechanism.

Steroids

January 2025

Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, School of Pharmacy, China Medical University, Shenyang 110122, China. Electronic address:

Due to the difference of estrogen levels in different phases of estrous cycle, it is necessary to exclude the influence of endogenous estrogen when studying the cardiovascular effects of estrogen and its analogues. In this study, the ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury of isolated heart were investigated in female rats during different phases of estrous cycle with male rats as comparison. The results indicated that the estrogen content in blood of rats during metestrus and diestrus (MD) was lower than those during proestrus and estrous (PE).

: The increased SNR available at 7T combined with fast readout trajectories enables accelerated spectroscopic imaging acquisitions for clinical applications. In this report, we evaluate the performance of a Hadamard slice encoding strategy with a 2D rosette trajectory for multi-slice fast spectroscopic imaging at 7T. : Moderate-TE (~40 ms) spin echo and J-refocused polarization transfer sequences were acquired with simultaneous Hadamard multi-slice excitations and rosette in-plane encoding.

As short-track speed skaters have to race multiple races to achieve success during competition, optimizing the recovery between efforts is a noteworthy performance determinant. Therefore, we compared three different recovery modalities (active cycling recovery, pneumatic compression boots, and isocapnic breathing protocol) in the context of perceived subjective pain and recovery variables, multiple biochemical and biomechanical indices, CMJ height and power, as well as repeated efforts on the ice track. Fifteen elite short-track speed skaters (eight males and seven females; age 18.

Protective mechanism of safflower yellow injection on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats by activating NLRP3 inflammasome.

BMC Complement Med Ther

January 2025

Institute of Basic Medical Sciences of Xiyuan Hospital, Beijing Key Laboratory of Chinese Materia Pharmacology, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, National Clinical Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Cardiovascular Diseases, Beijing, China.

Objectives: This study intended to explore whether the protective effect safflower yellow injection (SYI) on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats mediated of the NLRP3 inflammasome signaling.

Methods: The I/R model was prepared by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery for 45 min and then releasing the blood flow for 150 min. 96 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham group, I/R group, Hebeishuang group (HBS), SYI high-dose group (I/R + SYI-H), SYI medium-dose group (I/R + SYI-M) and SYI low-dose group (I/R + SYI-L).

Objective: To evaluate the main outcomes of disease activity and their association with other measures of activity, damage, and quality of life in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) according to time since diagnosis and positivity to antisynthetase autoantibodies (ASAs).

Methods: Cross-sectional multicenter study within the Spanish Myo-Spain registry. Cases were classified as incident (≤ 12 months since diagnosis) and prevalent.
