Recently a randomised placebo controlled trial in a general practice setting showed that inhaler therapy with a spacer device in 218 1-4 year old children with moderate asthma is feasible, but that treatment with cromoglycate was no more effective than placebo. The lack of benefit from the treatment with cromoglycate may have resulted from several points discussed and refuted in this commentary. Major points are the degree of asthma of the children and uncertainty about the amount of medication that reached the lungs. The results of the trial support the intentions of national and international guidelines to withdraw the recommendation of cromoglycate as the first choice in prophylactic asthma treatment.

Purpose: To determine whether preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can reliably determine intraoperative measurements in the Vertiflex Interspinous Spacer (ISS) procedure.
Methods: Patients who underwent Vertiflex ISS with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) and a preoperative MRI available in picture archiving and communication system (PACS) between January 2013 to February 2023 were identified retrospectively from the University of Chicago Medical Center Database. An experienced board-certified pain specialist and well-trained 2nd-year medical student independently performed measurements of the interspinous space where Vertiflex ISSs of various sizes are inserted.

HfO/ZrO-based ferroelectrics present tremendous potential for next-generation non-volatile memory due to their high scalability and compatibility with silicon technology. Unlike the continuous polar layers in perovskite ferroelectrics, HfO/ZrO-based ferroelectrics are composed of alternating polar layers with oxygen shifts and non-polar spacers, which leads to a distinct ferroelectric switching mechanism. Background: The standard treatment for periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) typically involves a two-stage resection arthroplasty using antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) spacers. This study hypothesizes that there is no significant correlation between antibiotic levels in blood and synovial fluid and the patient's kidney function, and that the success rates of staged resection arthroplasty are comparable between groups, specifically targeting gram-positive bacterial infections.

Interlayer excitons (IXs) in the heterostructure of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are considered as a promising platform to study fundamental exciton physics and for potential applications of next generation optoelectronic devices. The IXs trapped in the moiré potential in a twisted monolayer TMD heterostructure such as MoSe/WSe form zero-dimensional (0D) moiré excitons. Introducing an atomically thin insulating layer between TMD monolayers in a twisted heterostructure would modulate the moiré potential landscape, thereby tuning 0D IXs into 2D IXs.
