A case is reported of late infection in a breast implant, in a 35-year-old female who underwent breast augmentation with a double-lumen silicone prosthesis combined with abdominoplasty. After 8 uneventful postoperative months, untoward and poorly defined symptoms occurred and further exploratory surgery became necessary. Due to a subacute inflammatory process in the entire pocket of the left breast, the implants were removed. Culture demonstrated Klebsiella pneumoniae. After complete healing, a pair of texturized moderate profile implants was placed above the muscle through an areolar access. The clinical history and management of this unusual case are described.

Colistin- and carbapenem-resistant (ColR CrKp) cause important health problems in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) due to its ability to harbor multiple resistance genes and spread of high-risk clones. In this study, molecular epidemiological characteristics, transferable resistance genes, and alterations of ColR CrKp isolated from PICU were investigated. Isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF MS, and antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed using disk diffusion method, gradient strip test, and broth microdilution method.

On 14-15 November 2023, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) organized a workshop entitled "Systematic Approaches for ESKAPE Bacteria Antigen Discovery". The goal of the workshop was to engage scientists from diverse relevant backgrounds to explore novel technologies that can be harnessed to identify and address current roadblocks impeding advances in antigen and vaccine discoveries for the ESKAPE pathogens (, , , , and species). Bacterial ghosts (BGs), non-living empty envelopes of bacteria, are produced either through genetic engineering or chemical treatment of bacteria, retaining the shape of their parent cells. BGs are considered vaccine candidates, promising delivery systems, and vaccine adjuvants. The practical use of BGs in vaccine development for humans is limited because of concerns about the preservation of viable bacteria in BGs.
