Published: June 1998

A library of potential agonists and antagonists for adrenergic receptors was prepared using high-throughput solution-phase parallel synthesis. Traditional solution-phase reductive amination reactions followed by rapid purification by ion exchange chromatography yielded products with near-analytical purity. An array of ketones and amines, arranged in an 8 x 12 matrix, were combined to form 96 individual compounds.

Effects of Different Ionic Liquids on Microbial Growth and Microbial Communities' Structure of Soil.

Bull Environ Contam Toxicol

January 2025

College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, China.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are widely used "green solvent" as they have a low vapor pressure and can replace volatile solvents in industry. However, ILs are difficult to biodegrade and are potentially harmful to the environment. This study, herein, investigated the toxicity of three imidazole ILs ([CMIM]Cl, [CMIM]Br, and [CDMIM]Br) towards soil microorganisms.

New approaches to secondary metabolite discovery from anaerobic gut microbes.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

January 2025

Department of Chemical Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara, CA, 93106, USA.

The animal gut microbiome is a complex system of diverse, predominantly anaerobic microbiota with secondary metabolite potential. These metabolites likely play roles in shaping microbial community membership and influencing animal host health. As such, novel secondary metabolites from gut microbes hold significant biotechnological and therapeutic interest.

Assay for Transposase-Accessible Chromatin with sequencing (ATAC-seq) is a powerful, high-throughput technique for assessing chromatin accessibility and understanding epigenomic regulation. Neutrophils, as a crucial leukocyte type in immune responses, undergo substantial chromatin architectural changes during differentiation and activation, which significantly impact the gene expression necessary for their functions. ATAC-seq has been instrumental in uncovering key transcription factors in neutrophil maturation, revealing pathogen-specific epigenomic signatures, and identifying therapeutic targets for autoimmune diseases.

A Cellular Automaton Simulation for Predicting Phase Evolution in Solid-State Reactions.

Chem Mater

January 2025

Materials Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California 94720, United States.

New computational tools for solid-state synthesis recipe design are needed in order to accelerate the experimental realization of novel functional materials proposed by high-throughput materials discovery workflows. This work contributes a cellular automaton simulation framework for predicting the time-dependent evolution of intermediate and product phases during solid-state reactions as a function of precursor choice and amount, reaction atmosphere, and heating profile. The simulation captures the effects of reactant particle spatial distribution, particle melting, and reaction atmosphere.

Purpose: Cardiac fibrosis, a key contributor to ventricular pathologic remodeling and heart failure, currently lacks effective therapeutic approaches.

Patients And Methods: Small extracellular vesicles from young healthy human plasma (Young-sEVs) were characterized via protein marker, transmission electron microscopy, and nanoparticle tracking analysis, then applied in cellular models and mouse models of cardiac fibrosis. Western blotting and qRT-PCR were used to identify protective signaling pathways in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs).
