Background: Even for experienced examiners quantitative and objective medicolegal assessment of vestibular vertigo is difficult. Current medicolegal opinions place disproportionate emphasis of subjective symptoms.
Methods: Based on parameters from spontaneous and provoked vestibular nystagmus with Frenzel's glasses, objective criterias for adequate medicolegal assessment of vestibular disorders are presented. Diagrams in tabular form for unilateral and bilateral vestibular dysfunction and benign peripheral positional vertigo allow assessment of reduction in earning capacity.
Conclusions: The widespread use of subjective criteria in the medicolegal evaluation of vestibular complaints should not be accepted. The qualified ENT specialist is able to evaluate vestibular deficits using objective and reproducible methods.

Positional downbeat nystagmus (pDBN) is a common finding in dizzy patients, with etiologies ranging from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) to central vestibular lesions. Although peripheral pDBN often presents with distinct clinical features that differentiate it from BPPV, diagnosing its etiology can be challenging. A thorough clinical evaluation, including the physical characteristics of the nystagmus, response to positional maneuvers, and neurological findings, is often sufficient to diagnose conditions that provoke pDBN such as anterior canal BPPV, atypical posterior canal BPPV, and central causes.

Objective: The study aimed to explore the vestibular function in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs).
Methods: Twenty-eight participants with a NDD (6 girls, 22 boys; 6-13 years; 9;3 ± 2;4 years) were enrolled in this pilot study. Sixteen participants had a single NDD (Autism Spectrum Disorder: n = 7, Developmental Coordination Disorder: n = 3; Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: n = 6), the remaining 12 had comorbid NDDs.

The neural mechanisms and aging effects on SVV perception, however, remain unclear.
Objective: This study seeks to examine aging-related changes in SVV perception and uncover its neurological underpinnings through functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS).
