Complications associated with implantation of polypropylene mesh in dogs and cats were evaluated retrospectively. Immediate postoperative complications were common (in 10 of 20 cases) but predominantly involved seroma formation which resolved with treatment. The only long-term (i.e., six months or more) complication identified was mass recurrence at the site of tumor resection (in seven of 14 cases). Recurrence was affected by resection size. The average number of ribs resected in cases of thoracic wall neoplasia (with and without mass recurrence) was 1.8 and 3.5, respectively. In this study, implantation of polypropylene mesh facilitated the reconstruction of large tissue defects and was not associated with any serious complications.

Methods: An 8-0 polypropylene suture was threaded into the lumen of a custom bent 27-gauge needle, and the needle tip was advanced into the eye from the intraocular lens (IOL) fixation point. The suture was threaded through the posterior limbal incision inside the IOL haptic loop and pulled out.

Purpose: Pressure resistance characteristics of the Paul glaucoma implant (PGI) and Ahmed ClearPath 250 (ACP), with and without the insertion of polypropylene thread in their tubes, were evaluated.
Methods: The in vitro flow pressure was evaluated at varying flow rates, both with and without threads (6-0 for PGI and 4-0 or 3-0 for ACP). Cross-sectional areas of the tube lumen and thread were measured to calculate pressure resistance using the Hagen-Poiseuille equation.
