Our studies on phosphatide, a food concentrate, produced as a by-product during the extraction of an edible oil in the oil-extraction plants, showed its high efficacy in patients (n = 52) with abnormalities of the hepatobiliary system. The drug having more than 40 weight percent of phosphorus-containing lipids appeared to be efficacious not only in respect of the subjective status of the patients but also the functional state of the liver and paraments characterizing lipid metabolism.

Five aerobic, Gram-stain-negative bacterial strains, designated as C3-2-a3, B3-2-R+30, C3-2-a4, C3-2-M3 and C3-2-M8, were isolated from the coastal soil of LungmuCo Lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region, PR China. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA genes and genomes indicated that these isolates belonged to the genus and showed a high similarity to LNNU 24178 (99.01%), RD2P54 (98.

Omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are widely used as supplements and pharmaceuticals because of their beneficial effects on human health. Triacylglycerols (TAG) and glycerophospholipids (GPL) comprise the primary chemical structures of DHA/EPA in marine sources. Furthermore, DHA/EPA-enriched glycerophospholipids (DHA/EPA-GPL) and lysoglycerophospholipids (DHA/EPA-LysoGPL) consumed through food and supplements are more effective than TAG in promoting health, which may be attributed to a specific underlying mechanism.

Biogenesis of membrane-bound organelles involves the synthesis, remodeling, and degradation of their constituent phospholipids. How these pathways regulate organelle size remains poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that a lipid-degradation pathway inhibits expansion of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane.

With development of modern food industry, plant-based milk products are widely used to replace dairy products to cook different kinds of food. Due to different origins, it is necessary to assess the nutrition difference between dairy and plant-based milk products. Phospholipids and unsaturated fatty acids, as the important nutrients in cream and butter, were closely related to body development and health.

Magnesium modulates phospholipid metabolism to promote bacterial phenotypic resistance to antibiotics.

State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, School of Life Sciences, Guangdong Province Key Laboratory for Pharmaceutical Functional Genes, Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-inheritable antibiotic resistance allows bacteria to survive treatment, with exogenous factors like high magnesium playing a significant role.
  • Functional metabolomics show that magnesium affects fatty acid biosynthesis, leading to altered bacterial response to antibiotics based on the balance of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids.
  • Lipid metabolism changes due to magnesium, specifically in glycerophospholipid pathways, enhance bacterial membrane properties that reduce antibiotic uptake and increase resistance.
