We measured the behavior of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), plasma viscosity (PV), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in 66 patients who underwent hip implant operations, from day 0 to day 21 postoperation. We analyzed the behavior of these parameters after the trauma of the operation. We identified a subset of patients with evidence of superficial clinical infection/inflammation, where the magnitude and duration of the response to surgery was different from the main group. PV and CRP show less variability between patients and consequently are better indicators of the acute phase response than the ESR which requires a series of values in order to demonstrate a trend. PV can be obtained simply and rapidly, which would make it a powerful tool in determining persistent inflammation.

Background: Recent studies in the younger old have identified associations between cognitive performance and markers of inflammation, including interleukin-6 (IL-6) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). These associations remain unexplored in the oldest old (age 90+), an age group most vulnerable to dementia. In addition, no studies have examined if amyloid burden impacts these associations.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has great potential and advantages in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Wutou decoction (WTD) was first recorded as a pill in the TCM classical book Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber written by Zhang Zhongjing in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 CE). It has significant therapeutic effects in delaying and reversing RA while improving patients' clinical symptoms, making it the best example of TCM treatment for RA.

Chronic musculoskeletal pain in pediatric patients can be challenging to diagnose, particularly in the absence of overt signs of autoimmune disease, as these episodes can manifest episodically. We present a case of a 14-year-old female patient with a two-year history of episodic "bone pain," morning stiffness, and infrequent fever and fatigue. Laboratory testing revealed an antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer of 1:1280 with a nuclear homogeneous pattern and a mildly elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

Objective: In the current study, to demonstrate the advantages of oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF), we focused on the therapeutics for lumbar spinal tuberculosis with the comparison of three treatments, including anterior approach, posterior approach, and OLIF combined with posterior percutaneous pedicle screw fixation.
Methods: This study included patients with lumbar spinal tuberculosis from July 2015 to June 2018. We divided these patients into three groups: 35 patients underwent an anterior-only approach (Group A), 36 patients underwent a posterior-only approach (Group B), and 31 patients underwent OLIF combined with posterior percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (Group C).
