The 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines advise not to perform mitral valve replacement (MVR) during septal myectomy (SM) to alleviate outflow obstruction. This study aims to review outcomes after concomitant mitral valve (MV) intervention versus SM alone. We conducted a comprehensive literature search across Embase, PubMed, and Scopus.

Background: The precise etiology of hypoplasia of the posterior mitral valve leaflet (PMVL) remains incompletely elucidated; however, it has been hypothesized to stem from genetic mutations occurring during fetal development. Herein, we present the anatomical characteristics of the mitral valve and associated cardiac pathologies in patients with hypoplastic PMVL.
Methods: This single-center retrospective study involved patients who presented between 2015 and 2021 at a tertiary healthcare facility.

Background: Coronary air embolism (CAE) is a complication that can lead to catastrophic outcomes, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and death. It is reported to occur during cardiac catheterization, within a few hours after cardiac surgery, or as a result of chest trauma. This is a case report of delayed coronary air embolism following cardiac surgery.

Objectives: The common surgical treatment in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is septal myectomy. This involves resection of a segment of the myocardial septum and can be performed with and without concomitant anterior mitral valve leaflet extension (AMVLE). While both approaches have satisfying clinical outcomes, there is a lack of data regarding the added value of concomitant AMVLE.
